Yes - but that Broad no ball might make just that little bit too much. If you were picking an English XI who would make your team?

The only player I definitely wouldn't be playing is Patel. Strauss I guess is debatable too.
I definitely wouldn't be playing KP or Bell, as they seem to have almost insurmountable problems - partly technical, and partly mental - against Test quality spin bowling in the SC.

But that's not quite the question you were asked.

Out of the 28 completed scores so far in this Test match, Bell has the second highest score.

If he somehow improves, you know from these almost insurmountable problems, he should do well.

Good point. If Bell manages to build on his last innings I'll be a happy man. Unfortunately having watched him for the entirety of his Test career I am pretty certain that fifty was a false dawn and he'll revert to being clueless in his remaining knocks in SL.

An aggressive team for the future-type XI for this series would have been:

1) Cook, 2) Strauss, 3) Trott, 4) Hales, 5) Prior, 6) Bairstow, 7) Patel/Bresnan (depending on pitch conditions), 8) Broad, 9) Swann, 10) Anderson, 11) Panesar.

Hmmm, the lead is getting a bit too big to expect a thriller. I guess SL will feel this is enough.

Otoh, we're not even half way! Self-applying English batsmen should be able to make it a good a decent fight.

Sorry Ian - even though you averaged around 100 in 2011, we are going to pick a chap called Hales who averages barely 40 in First Class Cricket instead of you.

Yeah that would work well..

Genuine question, CWB - would you have dropped Michael Clarke from the Australian Test side this time last year?
