It's a shame that I don't currently have control of the TV, and the immensely interesting Reading versus QPR is on the TV. :(

Anyway, played Straussy.
Are you the only cricket fan in your house? ;)

I've just been watching the avo session.

The pitch looks totally lifeless, think we can consider bowling SA out for 337 a good effort.

SA attack looks v one-dimensional; crying out for a spinner. AD said on Sky's commentary that Paul Adams has lost it totally, but whatever happened to Robin Petersen? He's never gonna tear up too many trees, but it's another option with Boje crocked.

Think Rudolph or Smith himself to bowl after tea.

Whilst Struass has played well, i've been most impressed with Trescothick. Before lunch i think it was lucky that he didn't face a ball from Ntini, then he was nearly out to the first ball he did face from him, but since then i think he has left the ball very well, he has had a lot of trouble with the likes of Ntini and Gillespie in the past.

Anyway time to go back and kick my dad away from Soccer Saturday :p

SA really struggling, 19 no balls already, i thought England were a bit profligate with the extras, SA are on another level.

Ball seems to be doing a bit albeit occasionally from the radio commentary.
The ball is swinging away from the left handers, although way too late to be of any threat.

This will be an interesting test for England. Watching the South African bowling, it really doesn't look like they are going to be able to take 20 wickets against England at all this tour, unless something amazing happens. The English openers are batting well, but on a flat wicket the South Africans are doing nothing at all.

The thing that really strikes me is that this is the sort of match Australia would win, because their bowlers can get something out of a pitch with nothing in it. It will be fascinating to see if the English attack can do the same.

Shame to lose Trescothick to the new boy, but it sounds like Strauss is looking excellent again, and it's a big innings for Butcher. Reckon he'll either make single figures or fifty plus.

Game plan now ought to be batting for the best part of tomorrow and look for 500+ at least, resulting in a last day chase of ~150 at 3-4 an over at worst.

England has won the test already? I must be on a delayed telecast or something.
England's bowlers have already "got something out of a pitch with nothing in it".

Brilliant ton from Strauss, home and away debut tons and apparently the first person to score a ton on his first appearance against his first 3 opposing teams in Tests (NZ, WI, SA).

Right, but England haven't won the test. I think they will do it, for what it's worth, but this would be the first time since Harmison's explosion of form in the West Indies that this bowling lineup has faced quality batting on a dead pitch, and getting 20 wickets to win the match is a big task.

I got the impression there was only one 'dead pitch' in WI and it was the one which Lara made 400. Most of the pitches in England however were somewhat less than bowler friendly although they obviously wore out as the game went on.
