*Official* England in South Africa Thread

Pleased for HHD, for what was a class knock.. A triumph for technique over brash hitting..
I like the look of Dale Steyn, he's had a rough first day, fair enough, but he is genuinely quick, has a quality action and looks like one to watch.. Im not going to go bigging him up like some Ashish Nehra, but Ill thoroughly enjoy watching him and wish him the very best..
Anyway, SA's backup has been trash for want of a better word, and their position is deserved in this test..

SA are behind the eight-ball for sure, but I think England could yet struggle to force a result.

Two of SA's three best batters (at least of the current team) got ducks, yet they still made it to 337.

I reckon we can expect a pretty sizeable contribution from either Smith or (more likely) Kallis in the 2nd.

Steyn does look to have something about him (no-ballitis notwithstanding) & may I say how nice it is to finally have another cricketer with my (frankly rubbish) first name on the scene! :D

Benkenstein was the only other "Dale" I can think of & he was never gonna make the top drawer of international cricket. :p

I don't, actually! Was he any good?

Not sure surnames count anyway! :D
I think Dale was one of the bowlers Richard conjured up as being a legend...he was so so

He was quite old when I last saw him, in the late 19nineties i guess.. Along with guys like Brendon Julian and Paul Reiffel.. He was a good ODI bowler, Medium pace, nothing amazing..

Back to the SA theme..

If common sense prevails, AB De Villiers should get the gloves for SA, he is a more than useful keeper for the Titans.. And that way they can bring Boje in for Thami who is quite frankly not good enough.. Lets hope they can find someone else to fill their quotas..

It's a lot to ask of a new guy - keeping wicket and opening the batting. Doing it in a oneday game is one thing, but opening the batting after a day and a half behind the stumps ain't easy. I would imagine Boucher will return before the end of the series, but it's hardly your keeper's fault that the bowling was so dire today.

He had a bit of a way to go before you get that carried away..
yes he did, but im confident that had he played the way he had for most of that tournament, he would have beaten rafter in the finals.

Strauss is bloody marvellous!! I love watching him play because sometimes he is all class, and others he just looks good living dangerously.

I'm in heaven at the moment; almost non-stop cricket until the end of February with both Australia and England! Boy am I glad it's holidays!
yes i think now hes cleared any doubts that i may have had off him. he is a quality batsman.
although i cant believe that he still hasnt got that pull shot sorted out, he still takes his eye of the ball way too early.

SA attack looks v one-dimensional; crying out for a spinner. AD said on Sky's commentary that Paul Adams has lost it totally, but whatever happened to Robin Petersen? He's never gonna tear up too many trees, but it's another option with Boje crocked.
pick claude henderson, far better bowler than peterson or adams.

he's the left arm finger spinner that toured Australia a few years back and took some wickets at the adelaide oval isnt he?
