Amla/Faf could have put a lot more pressure on England by batting more aggressive this morning. Was a really drab and weak performance against Root.

SA should get to within 50 and declare. Aim to bat another 15 or so overs.

Agreed. We aren't far off the point where SA are the only side that can win this, and England must be knackered after best part of 2 and a half days in the field. Last thing they want to do is bat for an hour or so.

Yes the pressure was basically off South Africa once they got 400 and still had plenty of wickets in hand. The 700+ declaration was far better for this reason. England would still had a sniff for longer. A 430 target is a lot less daunting than 500. Not saying it would have worked out but it was certainly a premature declaration and as I said at 600 there was no point declaring until 700.

There's no equity for England to declare tomorrow now. Wouldn't put it past England to gift some early wickets though and make it hard work.

Yeah SA missed a trick big time this morning, should have scored 50 more and they'd be in a position to declare around now and have a real go at England this afternoon.

Been my thoughts all along. Maybe play another 10 overs or so as we are a bit behind a good declaration.

Considering the total lack of any real established batsmen after Amla/Faf, their caution is understandable. I reckon even if they barely draw level with England's total, it'll be pressure back on England atleast initially in their innings. This match would he a lot more fun if they could sub Steyn in for the second innings.

Yeah but Root bowled 6 straight overs and went at under 3 RPO. Sorry but they could have comfortably accelerated against him and put real pressure on England.
