Well it's good to see Bavuma getting some runs under his belt. Albeit in one of the higher scoring matches in recent memory.

Both sides have put down a few chances but this is ridiculous.

I've got a horrible feeling we are going to make this awkward for ourselves 2nd innings though.

Pitch deserves to come in for proper criticism. It won't because it's going to go 5 days, but it should.

Agreed. Particularly disappointing that it's the case in South Africa, given the our reputation for giving the pacers a good chance if they bowl well.

I'd bat till 15 minutes before close then put England in. Should have a lead and if you nick someone off pressure all on us then.

It may seem defensive, but I definitely think South Africa should secure the draw before going for the win in this match. Given it's a four match series, you don't want to go 2-0 down. 1-0 with 2 to go still gives us a good chance of tieing the series at least, and drawing a game that had the first day-and-a-half go so heavily in England's favour arguably gives us the momentum going into the 3rd Test.

I don't feel all that much sympathy for Moeen. The pitch is a turd but he's just not bowled very well. Root has a better economy rate and would have a wicket if not for Anderson shelling it in the slips.

I feel worse for Finn, who has by and large bowled really well, but also has horrid figures.

I agree. In a series context, there's little reason at all for South Africa to risk a loss at this point by doing something funky in order to try to force a win out of nowhere.

I dunno, maybe just keep batting until they go past England? No disrespect to the Saffer bowlers, but they are not going to bundle England out here, better for them to grind the England bowlers into the ground.

Well if they carry on batting and batting they will be grinding Hales, Root and Cook into the ground - as they will be the ones bowling.

Hopefully amla can get some confidence after this innings, but chances were created and the catching has been utter crap. I say declare this evening with 30 minutes to go... We have momentum now and surely we cant lose the game from this position.

If one or two catches were taken instead of dropped the whole match situation woild have been different.
