This is quite bizarre:

I don't see how Vaughan can justify using the tactic since it's blatantly against the laws of the game, unlike the sub-fielder issue which was a bit of a grey area. I'll be astonished if he does use this in a Test match (as he says he might), even more astonished if he gets away with it.
He can't possibly get away with it in a Test match...it's a ridiculous tactic! If he does try to use it in the Tests, I wouldn't be surprised if he was seriously disciplined - and he really should be if he tries something as blatantly wrong as this.

Yeah I don't like that, surely he'll be disciplined if he does it?
Sounds more like mind games to me. Of course he'll know its illigal. Probably just playing on the complaints the Australians made this summer.

It may well be mindgames (it's a bit stupid if it is), but he used it in the tour match, which is illegal in itself (and should've been picked up by the umpires). Tempting fate by suggesting that he intends to use it in the Test series.

They must select him for the Pakistan A game at Lahore on Sunday - will be interesting to see how he goes on a non-seamers' paradise!
Problem is that the second match is suppose to be played on similar pitch.

I don't think the test matches would be played on seaming pitches, would expect it to be batting friendly pitches.

Sounds like it wasn't, which is strange since as soon as I read it I knew it wasn't allowed, yet I'm not a First Class or International umpire!

Its brilliant...! If he does it and gets away with it, that is an outrage... but I cetainly think that the threat of him doing it will make the Pak batsmen think twice.

Having not seen it though... I dont know how much he is moving. This ever been tried before?

Quoting Cricinfo:

'This movement goes against law 41, which states that: "Any significant movement by any fielder after the ball comes into play and before the ball reaches the striker is unfair. In the event of such unfair movement, either umpire shall call and signal dead ball."'

Now, given that Vaughan was only moving across when the batsman shaped to sweep, and there is no longer than one second between ball release and shot, that means the batsman is going to get into position with around half a second to play, then given human reaction times of 0.3 seconds average, Vaughan gets 0.2 seconds to move. That cannot be a significant movement, can it?

I can't tell if you're being facetious or not (what is [/DA]?), but I don't see how a movement from slip to leg-slip can be regarded as insignificant.

I think it's Devil's Advocate.

And if the keeper's standing up, and he's at a tight first slip, he can just move round the back quickly :p

Does law 41 exclude wicket-keepers? If not that does that mean they have to wait til the ball is past the batsman before moving - I think that would explain some of Geraint's wicket-keeping...

From memory, wasn't Gatting & Rana's little contretemps provoked by FG allegedly moving a fielder during the bowler's run up?

Nice to see the England skip has a sense of tradition! ;)

Hampshire spinner Shaun Udal told The Sun: "Kevin Pietersen and Liam Plunkett are winning with some absolute beauties under their noses."

The 36-year-old added: "I look a bit like Hitler, but I'll keep trying."

so then what should england realistically hope to achieve.

3-0 is perhaps a tad farfetched no?

Apparently the English squad are all growing taches in Pakistan to relieve the boredom! Wonder if they'll last to the 1st test? From the beeb's website:

Looks like Colly's is gonna be ginge to the extreme! Slightly more Spartan effort from Plunkers tho. I trust all the English fans here are going to do their patriotic duty & follow suit?! :D

lmao...plunkett looks just like the old fashioned englishman that captained the english army side in the bollywood cricket movie lagaan

i love him already :D

Not that far-fetched - 2-1 or 2-0 is probably a very good result, but 3-0 is certainly not out of the question. I would say that if England do win the series, it'll most likely be by one of those scorelines - I really can't see there being more than one draw in this series given the way England play their cricket. If they play their cricket well, the matches will finish quickly.

Realistically, a series victory, by whatever scoreline, is a very good result for England. Pakistan will be a tough test, but for various reasons I'm very confident England will be the eventual winners of this series. It'll take some outstanding individual performances from Pakistan to counter the fact that England are clearly a better unit.
