At what point could he have been recalled? He was injured until late in the summer.
If he was that important, they'd have chucked him in instead of Bell for the last two Tests, what with his experience and all that. the fact that they didn't showed his place was at least in doubt - if it had been, say, Trescothick who was out for as long as Butcher was, they'd have rushed him back as fast as possible.

Well if a certain user can share his name with Devil Ducky, two Shahid Afridis can coexist.

Speaking of the duck, I hope my signature arouses some feelings in you, you cruel man.
Hunger.

Actually, is it ok if I let DD out and I just eat his Chinese cousin, Chris P Duck?

Well let the poor Devil out of the cupboard and have all the other duck chops or lamb chops or whatever you want.

Thanks, Chris.

Maybe you and Pratyush are actually going to shame me into putting some sort of effort in again.

OK you - out.

<quack> Mean it?

Yes. Now where's my wallet?

<quack> I was looking after it for you

A likely story. Now I've bought you a new diary and flight tickets. You're booked on the plane to Pakistan with Freddie and Harmy.

<quack> Ow!. My liver.

Joyce should be next in line when there's an injury, followed by Shah - picking Key or Butcher would be regression. The fact that they've already been dropped indicates the management believe they're not good enough, so why pick them? Pick someone who may well be good enough but hasn't had a chance to prove it yet - ergo, Joyce or Shah.
Maybe picking Butcher would be an regression but not so much Key. He played well last summer & had that decent knock in the Jo'burg test plus he scored heavily in CC this season. I think he would be next in line followed by Joyce or Shah...

I agree...I don't understand much of the negativity surrounding Key. He looks no less capable to me than Bell or Butcher, and has already made some good scores in Test cricket while never actually having a long run in the side. It's not as if his technique is terrible either...he certainly deserves a go if Bell fails on the subcontinent.

Pak Patron's 11 are 140- 8 in reply to England's 256-9 decl.

I think Pak's national team batters will struggle in similar manner against England too.

Friddie, Anderson and Giles will be the key bowlers for England against Pakistan in the series.

My prediction,

Test: 3-0 to England

OD : 3-2 to Pakistan
