To be fair to him, he's averaging over 30 for each of the last 3 years (and over the last 2 he's ahead of Sehwag, yet Sehwag made the World ODI XI)
He played....

But I still don't understand why Smith was given captaincy in the tests...when you had Lara and Inzi to choose from.

Whatever it takes!!!
My fears have been realized and England take part in yet another uncompetitive away ODI series. They seriously have to sort out this problem. They were so good when they were in India in the ODIs last time under Hussain.

And God help Pakistan if Inzamam gets injured. I don't think any one player means more to a team than Inzamam does to Pakistan - Lara and the West Indies included.
there is no doubt that inzi is a great player and he means a lot to the Pakistani team ... but comparing the westindian team without lara with the Pakistani team without inzi is wrong .. i mean pakistan has some very good ODI players like Mohd Yousaf, Malik, Afridi, Razzaq, Akmal, Akhtar
and the current westindian team without lara can be compared with the indian team without tendulkar in the 90s..... but i hope he stays with pakistan as long as possible... atleast till the world cup ......

He may a 30+ average, but how many games can you name that he's had a positive impact on?

He can't cope with the pressure,he bats to slow, and he's neevr made a 100. Sehwag may have a lower average, but at least he has a great strike rate and is capable of playing match winning knocks, unfortunately,i con't see Vaughan doing the same.

Yeh.......i dont see why though........they should have tried to win and go above South Africa into second place in the rankings :@
Needs more than that for England to look like winning, let's be honest.

Im sure even England will now be able to inflict a heavy deafeat against Pakistan......with Younis Khan as our captain our feild will be back and England will be able to pick singles with ease.

80-odd against Australia in the CT trophy a year ago?

(Yes, all right, there's not much after that...)

Thought Younis Khan did a marvellous job on Monday and looked far more spontaneous and inventive than Inzi could ever be.

Still think Pakistan are favourites tomorrow with or without their two star players, Yasir Hameed has a good ODI record, Yasir Arafat bowls with some real pace and is a good striker of the ball and Mohammad Asif should already be in the side.

I don't have a problem with Pakistan resting some stars and trying out new players. I would rather take advantage of the opportunity to try young players then a chance to get higher on ODI rankings. Besides, the ODI rankings mean nothing when the World Cup starts right? I mean the team that wins THAT is the number one team period.

With the likes of Flintoff and Pietersen in the middle order, is it not just possible that an anchor helps?

I didn't like Younis Khan's bowling changes

To take off Afridi who had taken 3 wickets, was a little preplexing, but fair enough. If he was looking ineffective. But in a stage of the game, where one more wicket was all that was realy needed, why did he bring on Shoaib Malik?! His first move, would be to bring on Shoaib. Shoaib completely destroyed Blackwell in the last match.

Then, i'd go wtih either Sami or Naveed Ul Hassan, preferebaly Rana.

Pakistan are lucky that Blackwell ran himself out, i dont' think Malik was going to get a wicket at that stage.

The role of the anchor isn't just to sit there and not get out though. Its to get big scores at a fairly decent rate. Vaughan has shown he doesn't have that capability, as he has no ODI hundreds as of yet.

And I think Strauss could play the role of anchor in the team in the future anyway. Maybe even possibly Bell, rather than Vaughan who has been tried and clearly failed.

LOL that's a stretch. Sehwag may not be a great ODI batsman, but he's a dangerous ODI batsman, and with the batting order India have they can afford him getting quickfire 30s and 40s as long as he makes a big score every so often.

Vaughan is neither great nor dangerous, and can't get quickfire 40s nor centuries. I'd call him a specialist fielder in the ODI side, but he drops catches regularly too. Specialist captain I guess.
