W e r grateful to God that he has blessed us with some quality opening batsmen & a genuine allrounder like Shahid Afridi who has the capability to make any opposition bowling lineup even worst than that of club just like he humiliated your street level pace bowlers in your home ground, scoring 102 of just 45 balls. We have a lot of quality opening batsmen while India is still crying to find an opening partner for Virender Sehwag. What a pity that they cant find a good oper among 1000 million people. He has scored 122 of 95 balls in a test against WI recently who have bowlers which r lot better than yours.
Flintoff is a genuine AR, Afridi isn't, atleast not in test matches.

India atleast have one WORLD CLASS opener in Sehwag, Pak doesn't have even a single opener that can be said to be decent!! What a shame, i guess thats why Pakistan is ranked along with minnows in test ranking :p

Afridi's innings that you mentioned were in OD, so ur point was basically pointless :p . If you wanna talk about an openers performance in INdo-Pak match then talk about Sehwag, who averages more than 95 against Pakistan in test matches, though i never thought much about his great record against Pakistan as in my opinion hammering half skilled bowlers is hardly such a great achievement.

Only really in the spin department, where our depth leads us to have exactly....... no quality spinner. But in batting and pace bowling, our depth is as good as any other team in world, if not better.
Batting?

but Gambhir is not better than Taufiq Umar & Yasir Hameed because his Performance has been nil against good sides. He has a fine looking average just because of his innings against Banfladesh.Other teams like SA,AUS &ENG have opening pairs lot better than ours.
I hope that Gambhir doesn't read this post otherwise he will lose his confidence.

Gambhir is here to stay, the left hander has a great future ahead, just wait and see.

Anyone think Gough's International career is now over?
I dont think so.........I have a feeling that atleast one of the pace bowlers will struggle in the series as the conditions are not really for the fast bowlers, this would make goughs chances even more high......He has a clear aim of playing in his last world cup, and to be part of that he needs to get quite alot of wickets and it wouldnt have been easy getting them in Pak.

Look kid, there is no point of going into history, lets face the reality of today, and there no pint denying the fact that Pakistan is currently facing a big problem in getting a decent pacer to partner Akhtar in test matches. The time Indian pacers spend playing cricket, Pakistanis pacers spend the same time trying to sort out their action in Uni of western Aus!!
Can u name even three pacers who r currently sorting their actions in WA university? No,U can't name even one.U haven't produced even one good pacer in your history,so u dont have to criticize our highly talented pace bowlers.Your street level pacers can never match the greatness of Fazal Mahmood,Khan Mohammad,Sikandar Bakht,Sarfaraz Nawaz,Imran Khan,Aaqib Javed,Wasim Akram,Waqar Younis,Shoaib Akhtar,Umar Gul & many others to come.

England's depth, or lack thereof, should be a major concern.
Not really, because we can expect the bulk of the current team to be around for 3-4 (or longer!) years. Therefore for "depth" we only really need to point to "talent" - in the hope that some of it will develop and mature for when we need them. The Australians however, because of the advanced age of their team, need a bit more than talent now. That they are struggling one only need look at the call up of people like Watson.

Riaz Afridi has been reported for suspect action !!!!....his future lies in UWA
Gul is just a one test wonder, spends more time in hospital than on cricket field.

Irsaad who??? probably he's Pak maddersa's product, and he was probably here in India last month spending time at the great MRF institue to gain a first hand info about fast bowling.

Players that must improve or be replaced within 2 years

Giles
Hoggard
Geraint Jones
Bell
Vaughan - has become a very average test batsman
Harmy

If Im not mistaken, that's over half the side.

Take my word, the future of Pak pacers lies at MRF pace foundation and UWA. If these great institutes stop helping Pak pacers then we might end up seeing Pakistan team battling with minnows in superior format of game.
How many world class fast bowlers have MRF pace foundation and UWA produced? The answer is:not even one.
U have no bowlers to train your youngsters so u have to request legends like Sir Dennis Lillee to train your youngsters but even the legends can do anything to your pacers because the Whole Indian nation is barren as far as fast bowling talent is concerned. And here in Pakistan,Aaqib Javed alone has trained & produced excellent fast bowlers like Umar GUL,Mohammad Irshad,Mohammad Khalil,Riaz Afridi,Mohammad Asif,Waqar Ahmed,Rao Iftikhar Anjum ,Najaf Shah & many others.Australian Academy visited Pakistan Cricket Academy last month & they were so impressed by his coaching techniques to controll No & Wide Balls that now they r using the same techniques in Australian Cricket Academy.I think India should send all the barren talent to get sharpened by a legendary bowler & coach like Aaqib Javed.

Er, most of those only "need replacing" because you don't think they're any good - which rather takes away from your claim that "England should be worried by their lack of depth" - you don't even think they've got a shallow end! And we would only have a problem replacing people who are "very good", we've got plenty of people with the potential to be average test batsmen (or keepers!) to come in 8-)

If those players dont improve, then they need replacing, i.e. aside from Vaughan's captaincy, none of the players are very good at their specialist positions.

If the players that replace them cant do better, then Eng has a problem with depth (unless, of course, they're satisfied that 1 Ashes victory is the pinnacle of achievement).

Shoaib & nehrafan - cut it out please. Just calm down and leave it here, it brings nothing to the forum!

And to nehrafan this is your final warning following your warning last week.

So Hoggard & Harmison aren't up to much when the conditions are in their favour? Rubbish. Only you would want to drop half of the strongest overall pace bowling attack in the world.

Well performing at the level of this series we will achieve far more than one Ashes series. The fact that we did so with, in your opinion, half the side not performing can only bode extremely well for the future :D

BTW do you understand the value of our 5 man bowling attack? On most pitches you only need 2-3 bowlers to have conditions in their favour (with others chipping in or keeping it tight) to bowl sides out for manageable scores. Our's is an attack for most conditions. With the possible exception of certain pitches in the subcontinent (esp. India) we will always have the 2-3 bowlers necessary. All that matters is that each bowler can do the job required when they have their conditions, and every bowler in the Ashes series (with the arguable although, not unexpected, exception of Ashley Giles) did so.

I fully understand the value of a five man attack and, as such, have been calling for Watson's inclusion in the Aus team for 12 months.

What I said was that there were several players in the English team that needed to lift their game or else should be replaced within 24 months.

Giles - obvious

Geraint - obvious

Bell - obvious

Vaughan - has been under-performing with the bat for 18 months and with the exception of a well-struck but extremely fortunate 100 at Old Trafford, did the same in this series.

Hoggard was ordinary except for 2 innings at Trent Bridge (where he was thumped later in the innings) and The Oval (where he took wickets in perfect seamer's conditions in the dark). He bowled mainly under 80 mph all season and his figures really flattered him.

Harmy - was generally good but, for the umpteenth series in succession, underperformed.

What is worrying for everyone else is that Eng have substantial improvement in them.

Whether these players or potential replacements can contribute towards this improvement is debatable.

Gilies = Bowled ok vs the best team in the world (not every spinner is a shane warne)

Hoggard = He didn't do bad nor did he do good but you can just drop him for not taking 400 wickets

Geraint Jones = He reminds me of when McCullum started at keeping he sucked but

McCullum is getting better and better

Bell = Horrid series but has the talent if he fails next series drop him

Vaughan = The same Vaughan who scored a 100 vs Australia?

Harmy = The same Harmy who ruffed up the Aussies?

This is no Australia. "OMG WE LOST THE SERIES DROP MATRYN OMG"

Not everyone is gonna perform 100% every series. And if these people suck then that doesn't say much for the team they just beat does it?
