It's hella samey with the right-arm-mediums. There's no left armers but we do really need one quick in there, hopefully Sears.
Yeah that was my concern (sameness). Tickner offers more pace. Apart from Ferguson in Perth, who would be our fastest test bowler since Bond?

Still disappointed Young got out - he's vulnerable early but wanted him to get to 50 balls to give himself a chance for a big score. Will have to be second innings then.

The time to have made some changes to the NZ set-up would have been when it first became apparent that the wheels were starting to fall off, with some unacceptable losses & poor handling of younger players. At the time there was some mild hand-wringing and a feeling on each occasion that ‘we’ll bounce back from this humiliation next test’.

Nothing has changed in the NZ set-up for eons. The selectors - a couple of light-weights in the personality stakes - have been there seemingly forever, the entire coaching staff are the same, and David White is like the Vladimir Putin of the whole thing - in the role since Adam was a boy and starting to make ‘major miscalculations’.

The Boult situation is another case of the set-up shooting itself in the foot. It was obvious that Boult was wanting more time out to pursue family time & lucrative T20 deals, but the situation had been managed for a couple of years & he still put very useful performances - helping win the WTC for example. The AB’s let ‘stars’ take sabbaticals, Kiwi IPL ‘stars’ get to join tours of England late, but NZC wouldn’t give Boult sufficient leeway - and it has badly backfired.

Unfortunately the NZC ‘cabal’ who run the joint are teflon coated. White has always been a remarkable political animal but these days seems to be asleep at the wheel allowing others to bungle badly.

Craig McMillan in the background - "if that arm guard is touching the gloves, it's out ... did they change the rules?"

Isn't that some crazy conspiracy theory rule that Shane Warne was going on about very loudly in commentary once, obviously someone told him it's bollocks and he came back and said they'd changed the rule.
