*Official* England in India

When I watch him play domestic one day cricket Tremlett's always impressed me and he hasn't got a bad record, averages 27 and when compared to Bres' record of 34 it's far better. He really hasn't played consistently for the England team over the years, it's been a game here and there. Saying all this with his injury record he just needs to be kept for tests, that's if he gets fit.
True, but Tremlett's ability to crank it up to 90mph IMO is what makes him a good domestic List A bowler. Saj Mahmood had an excellent season in 2009, got called up for the South Africa tour (which based on domestic results wasn't a dire move) then promptly reminded everyone why he hadn't featured for almost 3 years.

I'd be inclined to keep Borthwick away from the mickey mouse cricket for the next season or so. Let him be part of Test squads and so on and I'd be wanting to pick him as a 5th bowler if England needed or wanted 5 bowlers on a fairly hot/flat/dry pitch somewhere. I don't think you should encourage him to bowl flat non-turning dross like Rashid does, it's not a good thing at his stage of development.

I think with regards to Bairstow and Buttler it's a toss-up really. Buttler was pretty awful in the Champions Trophy, which is worrying. Stokes' bowling will be crucial to the balance of the ODI side. England really lack viable bowling options from their batsmen. Stokes can bowl properly. He's a bit expensive but he takes wickets. As I said before I'd have KP open with Cook and have Stokes at 4.

As a fan of the Indian cricket team since '96, the whooping they received in England was THE lowest point for me supporting India. It was the most helpless and embarrassing I had ever felt rooting for the team.

So, this 5-0 drubbing is mighty sweet. I'll cherish this for a long time.

Thoroughly ugly effort all round.

It's a rhetorical question (the answer being "currency"), but why did we bother at all? 2015 WC in NZ & Oz, I believe, which means Indian conditions mean absolutely sweet Fanny Adams as a guide for that tournament, which should be the ultimate target, one supposes.

Yeah, there was a bit of whinging on Sky about needing to learn to play spin in subcontinental conditions, when the next World Cup in the SC won't be until 2023 at the earliest I don't get what all the gnashing of teeth was about. It's good experience in terms of playing under pressure etc but learning the conditions means nothing.

yeah.. but even ODI experience helps when you have to tour here for the tests.. And that applies everywhere..
Strauss, Cook, Pietersen, Bell, Prior, Swann, Broad and Anderson have all been to India before though. I'd bank on most of this England side not being anywhere near the Test squad next year when we tour again.

They've all been pretty poor (not even just "not as good as they are in the County Championship" - but downright poor and in Bairstow's case lucky to still be selected at all) in one day domestic cricket so far
Crib, this is downright nutjobbery. Bairstow's selection for England was a gamble by all means, and probably premature, but he was absolute gold in List A cricket this summer.

I guess ECB wanted to work on gain more experience in the subcontinent, in order to defend the T20 champions title, the next three of which are in the subcontinent.

In any scenario, I dont see England winning the world cup in Australia ahead of Oz themselves. They have pretty much won cups everywhere, so doubt if they would be willing to let go of an opportunity on home soil

You think Pujara will break into the test team?
He was the incumbent in the team, until he got a serious injury in the IPL.

Not sure whether he has recovered or not yet fully, but can see the 6th batting slot being between him, Kohli and maybe Rahane in the near future.(Though with these selectors can't rule out Rohit either.)

Personally, i would select him first for that slot when he is fit, but think now Kohli will get a run against West Indies ahead of him.

As gold as Buttler?

Im certainly not against Bairstow being selected by any means but when you compare the List A records of the two it is hard to argue his case over Buttler. Can only conclude that he was chosen because of his superior first class record which is a mistake we make rather a lot.

Another collapse, another sound beating. Very well played India, showed us many a lesson in how to play in these conditions. MS Dhoni quite simply sublime again.

Flower did not look happy afterwards, of course there's no surprise in that, but thought his interview was excellent. He is an honest, frank, thoughtful kind of a guy who will not accept those performances and will ensure we improve and avoid such a hammering again. He is certainly the right man to drag us forward, albeit kicking and screaming in these conditions.

He looked furious, almost as if he was going to go straight from the interview to punch **** out of a few of his players.

Add to that the Champs trophy is in England I think as well.

Haha good god. I was expecting England to screw up somehow but not quite so spectacularly given they were 1/129 when I went to sleep.

Yes, I went out when we were 115 without loss and it was all looking fairly comfortable, didn't expect what I came back to, to say the least.
It's the fact they haven't maybe apart from the one game, put a complete game together where all 3 disciplines have worked, either we've lost the openers early and struggled with partnerships or some of the bowling has been poor add to that the fielding has been a shambles, which is the hardest one to get your head around.

what do you mean?

are you saying that this will give india a false sense of how great they are?
Nah, just hoping that it'll cover up some of the cracks that might have been fully addressed had they also lost at home in a ODI series. Didn't watch a single ball tbh though
