Swings and roundabouts.

Pietersen's decision was a shocker, but that's cricket. He benefited last time.
Added to the Pathan caught behind at a time when England were on the verge of getting a sizeable lead.

Funny how i'm forced to eat my word, i said that India can't win this match but in a strange twist India are now in a position to win this match with ease.

Kudos to Kumble, he is the second best leggie in the world after Warne, and a real match winner.

What i love about these two teams is their approach to the game..especially india because they could've easily made a boring draw outta this but decided to attack aggressively, in both batting and bowling..i mean the way they play it's like they dont give a crap about what happens as long as SOMETHING happens and a result is forced..

another thing is that so far this series has been played in good spirit..i remember there was a lotta bad blood between england and pakistan with afridi's little "gesture" and so on..hope the good cricket continues...

Sachin isn't even 33 yet. still he has played 131 tests so far and 362 ODIs, at that age Kapil had only 113 test and 176 ODIs, it simply means he has played 18 more tests and 186 more ODIs than Kapil played at 33 and Kapil was much stronger and one of the fittest cricketer ever.

The more you watch Sachin the more you feel that he has lost it, if not physically then mentally, at least in the longer version of the game.
i am not talking about the number of tests or odis, but about the way kapil hung around at the end and the board and the team management allowed him to hang around till he got the world record number of wickets......his average, strike rate, economy, all dropped badly during that period and he was just playing mostly on reputation.....being kapil, he did contribute from time to time with ball and bat, but he was just a shadow of the old kapil and what was worse, he held back srinath when he was more than ready to take over as india's no: 1 pacer....i just don't like to see sachin in the same position and i want to see him go out on a high....that's all....and the fact that he isn't 33 yet is not so relevant in sachin's case because he started when he was 16 and it has pretty much been non-stop except for the last couple of years.....he probably still has a few sparks left in him....but they are just not lighting up cricket fields like they used to.....

What people have to realise is, Sachin doesn't have to be the Sachin pre-2002, where he was scoring runs at an unbelievable rate, to be worthy of a place in the side.

Its not as if its "Sachin, be the God you were in 1998 or you shouldn't be in the team", because that's stupid. What he has to do is just do the best of his ability on a consistent basis, and if that is better than Laxman or Kaif (which I think it is) then he should be slotted in that team. I'd say Sehwag and Dravid are comfortably the better test batsman than him right now (and probably both have been since 2003) but that doesn't mean Sachin doesn't deserve a place in the team. Not in my opinion anyway. Plus, let's be realistic here, he's not going to be dropped whether people think he should or not. Its just how it is.

If people come to accept that Sachin won't be tonning up every 2 matches and averaging 60-65 a year anymore, but that he will still be a good enough player to warrant a place in the team and score the odd century here and there, the disappointment when he fails will be slightly less (its still always a sad thing to see :(). I mean really, you can't keep up what he did throughout the 90s and up till 2002 all your career with so much cricket going around now-a-days. He's human too.

More than whether Tendulkar scores runs (which hasn't been great in tests lately), there is disapopintment at large at the way he scores his runs too.

I think this is where people are largerly mistaken. He can't score runs at the way he did in 1998. I remember he was even more agressive in his early days and used to get out so much more in the 1992-1996 period.

I do see Tendulkar has curtailed the risk in his batting and removed getting out shots a lot. Despite this he is getting out. So people say he should play in way x, way y. I think it should be left to him to figure out, or him to consult who ever he wants, if he wants.

Just to speak about batting styles, Dravid comes to mind. His one day batting was highly criticised. He has been such a good one day player because he has the batting base required to adopt.

Tendulkar too has the batting base required to adopt. Has his body detiorated so much that he cannot perform at test level? I strongly don't believe it but we can only ascertain after he finishes his career for sure.

I do not buy the logic that he has lost it mentally. Maybe he is doing things wrong mentally, maybe he isn't. But how can a player who has one of the best cricketing brains lose it mentally when mental prowess is bound to increase over a cricketers career.

Added to the fact that Laxman was incorrectly given out for LBW in the first test...given that he got an inside edge......Detect a touch of sour grapes on your part 8-)

Bottom line - He is not scoring enough runs and that's why people are taling about his performance. Last 5 series he has averaged - 17.5, 27.5, 51, 37.80, 21. (Not counting minnows).

I love it, Pathan can't bat? Hits a run-a-ball 50 which puts the English on the back foot, and changes the match.

Then the judgment of Patel after only 1 spell (his first ever), and he bowls superbly with some beautiful reverse swing.

What India needs next is the English to start claiming Sachin is well past it and him being in the team aids the English. Hopefully that'll get Sachin in some form ;)
