*Official* England in India 2023/24 #CryMoreTour

Gotta love how cricinfo writers choose arbitrary hills to die on. Karthik Krishnaswamy is currently weaving a narrative around Rajat Patidar's unlucky false shot:dismissal ratios.

Nah no way. Stop the cap as the youngsters would say.

I've heard you - in person - talking about Viv. After a few drinks and steak.

You'd have to be a self absorbed narcissistic ignoramus lacking complete insight to be jealous of Viv. You may be many things, but you are not an ignoramus.

Cherry picking the only variable that didn't go England's way during the series is being slightly disingenuous.

England were playing at home and still couldn't get the job done.
the problem is they perhaps began believing their own hype, first day declaration when the batting was still going well (Root/Robinson) for the sake of FOUR overs instead of putting on more of a total was just ridiculous

I'd blame that more for England's failing to win than the rain, close Test given away by the captain and indeed latterly they might still have won it but couldn't finish off the job

I'd be seething more at having had strong positions and declared it away, then latterly failed to finish the game off, than rain which is always possible in England and you should not rely on weather to stay good (to win) or go bad (to draw)

much like people in football bemoaning decisions, score 2-3 legit goals and take away the need for VAR to go your way ie don't rely on luck/decisions/both

Not trawling through loads of pages, just wanted to pick up on a comment I read elsewhere earlier....which spinner plays vs Windies and Sri Lanka in the summer? Do you not stick with Bashir who has shown something this tour, or do we go with Hartley as he is ok with the bat?

the bottom line is the spinners this tour. India's spinners have just been far too good, and England's far too young. I think most teams in the world would have struggled to be honest against Jadeja, Ashvin and Kuldeep.

Is this a roundabout way of saying Burgey is self-absorbed and narcissistic? :D

The 2nd Test India won a useful toss (I mean they all are), and basically held the advantage all game. But England were never blown away.

At the end of Day 2 in the 3rd Test, England were 207-2. On a flat pitch, they just needed to bat for a day and grind India down. That was where Bazball got it horribly wrong, that shot I suspect will haunt Root for the rest of his career. We haven't seen it since, not sure we will again unless in a position of complete ascendency or batting with the tail.

They've been better this Tour, but have failed to grasp opportunities when they arose.
2nd Test isn't close tbh and has little to do with the toss either.

India score 400 in 1st innings (big total conceded). England then couldn't play reverse swing and go from 1-113 to 7-182 and all out for 253, conceding a huge 143 run lead on day 2. Bumrah takes 6-fer. It was not a close game and neither pitch nor toss were a factor. It was reverse swing.

3rd Test is closer after day 2, but then it's a complete demolition on day 3 and 4. England couldn't deal with Kuldeep on day 3 at all. He was unlucky not to pick more wickets. He was ripping it. Even if England applied themselves a lot better, they wouldn't have got more than 400

The whole "that shot will haunt root" thing I don't get. He'de be kicking himself that he played the shot in a situation where it wasn't needed, but its not even the worst shot root played to get out this series. The fact that people keep harping on about reverse scoop, a shot roots actually been fairly successful with, and not the random run down the pitch and slog against the turn he played while 25(15) chasing in the 4th dig is so odd to me. The latter was a much worse shot and given how that chase ended up, root playing with half a brain could have made things alot more interesting.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah I mean reasonable seam movement would be a few centimetres here and there, not this many balls moving this many inches. And not good to see some balls bouncing twice before the keeper at this stage. Let's hope it flattens out a bit.
I mean, its pretty obvious by now people here would know you cant really judge a wicket in India by the first session coz of the fact that we play in winter and have 9:30 AM starts. The early morning moisture can make it a very different wicket to what you get in sessions 2 and 3, forget about the other days.
