*Official* England in India 2023/24 #CryMoreTour

I'm not sure about root honestly. His average on the sweep plummeted when the pitches got poor last series and have stayed that way this series to a point where in the past 3 innings he's put the shot away completely.

I don't know if 2021 root would have enjoyed facing bumrah early in this series anymore than now, and outside of the reverse scoop I don't know if he avoids any dismissals.
It's a daft hypothetical so doesn't really need serious discussion. But the Root who played these below knocks doesn't average 29.50 on the pitches he's played on in this series.

Only Rohit/Pant did anything in the remaining 3 matches of the 2021 series.

Ashwin tonned up after telling England they were whining too much about it being a tough wicket
Fair enough and yeah no arguments here in hindsight over that series.

Would have preferred tests that went the 5 days but you've got a right as home-side to prepare whatever wicket you want. It's elite sport you play to win.

The pitches have been excellent this series. Should be zero complaints, still has been. Stokes definitely made some excuses in last game.

the Indian batting was better in 2020 for sure, Rahane had just come off a good tour in Oz and Pujara was also equally vital then. Rohit then was better than now, Gill was coming off a good debut series and Kohli played two of his most chanceless knocks in Adelaide and Chennai. even ignoring all of that Pant alone makes that batting better lol. its only in hindsight with 2021-23 that makes the batting look **** now but back then it was still good
Looked good on paper doesn't change the fact that in hindsight it was worse.

Yeah I don't think the second and third tests was particularly close at all. Fourth one absolutely was though and is the one where they were way ahead in the game and just let it slip.
The 2nd Test India won a useful toss (I mean they all are), and basically held the advantage all game. But England were never blown away.

At the end of Day 2 in the 3rd Test, England were 207-2. On a flat pitch, they just needed to bat for a day and grind India down. That was where Bazball got it horribly wrong, that shot I suspect will haunt Root for the rest of his career. We haven't seen it since, not sure we will again unless in a position of complete ascendency or batting with the tail.

They've been better this Tour, but have failed to grasp opportunities when they arose.

England's openers have been superb, Crawley and Duckett have 5 50+ plus stands in 9 batting innings in the series.
However it also highlights how truly woeful England's No.3 and middle order have been that they couldn't get big scores consistently despite being given great platforms by Crawley & Duckett.

Some show put on by Kuldeep. Dharamsala turning out to be a memorable venue for him; remember him getting Maxwell with a brilliant googly on debut seven (!) years ago. Be criminal if he keeps getting passed over abroad, balance be damned. He'd obviously be the greater threat on bouncier wickets too.

I want Kulderp to spend the six months before the Australia tour getting ready on those wickets. If he’s prepared, Kuldeep and Bunrah give India a real shot at taking three in a row in Aus.

The whole "that shot will haunt root" thing I don't get. He'de be kicking himself that he played the shot in a situation where it wasn't needed, but its not even the worst shot root played to get out this series. The fact that people keep harping on about reverse scoop, a shot roots actually been fairly successful with, and not the random run down the pitch and slog against the turn he played while 25(15) chasing in the 4th dig is so odd to me. The latter was a much worse shot and given how that chase ended up, root playing with half a brain could have made things alot more interesting.

Bairstow has 100 tests.... great

Average 36 lol

I hope he doesn't play for England again, a moaner who has had more chances than anyone. Stokes ****ed up the ashes by deciding he wanted his bloody golf buddy to score 100 (Failed on 99).

Hasn't scored anything in India. Still according to some he's an "All time great"
Did someone hack into Chris’ account??

because its easier to rig up media talking points with that scoop than what you pointed out

Both those shots highlight how his brain was a bit frazzled. I know it's not exactly his fault what followed, but that wicket instigated a collapse and a horrible defeat. You could tell when he walked off how angry he was, that it was a flat pitch tailormade for him. All he had to do was bat normally. Look what he did in the 4th Test...
