The headlines and framing in the article make it sound like McCullum was reprimanding him or something. The actual quote is a total nothing one though. Says he thought coming into the game Robinson was gonna be in his best shape ever, but he got injured when batting. I know fitness and professionalism have been issues for Robinson for a while, but I don't see any accusation in McCullum's own words.

Hope Robinson doesn't squander his career, he's shown he's got the talent if he can just apply himself...

Hmmm, if it were a normal person speaking I'd say that the "Everything he did leading into the Test match" bit implies that Robinson prepared well and did everything he could. But I guess in Bazball speak anything short of "He is performing at a new, higher level of cricket that no one has ever come close to before" probably registers as criticism.

What he needs is to play some County Cricket and get his confidence and fitness back (and I'm not just saying this as a Sussex fan). He was horribly mollycoddled at the end of the 2023 season which clearly did no one any favours. The ECB need to stop restricting when he plays because what he actually needs is as much game time as possible.

I think arguably we expected them to stay in India and practice their skills, instead of playing golf in Abu Dhabi. Their performance in the 3rd Test would suggest as much too...

There's just something about Robinson, he always looks like he needs a rocket up his backside to galvanise him into action.

He's a really talented bowler and we need him more than ever with Broad retiring but whatever the issues with him are, he needs to sort them out.

forgive me for being stupid (standing offer) but why couldn’t they just have golfed in india? seems like taking a plane back to abu dhabi for that would have been, at best, neutral, at worst, something that could impinge on preparation and make them an easy target if things went wrong in the matches which they ultimately did

You are right of course. The golf had nothing to do it, they just weren't good enough.
