Surprised at McCullum goes against everything he's done so far as coach.Robinson's professionalism definitely called into question publicly https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...disappointing-return-in-india-england-cricket
Dunno this reads like criticism to me. Definitely not McCullum's usual tact. The headlines and framing in the article make it sound like McCullum was reprimanding him or something. The actual quote is a total nothing one though. Says he thought coming into the game Robinson was gonna be in his best shape ever, but he got injured when batting. I know fitness and professionalism have been issues for Robinson for a while, but I don't see any accusation in McCullum's own words.
Hope Robinson doesn't squander his career, he's shown he's got the talent if he can just apply himself...
Hmmm, if it were a normal person speaking I'd say that the "Everything he did leading into the Test match" bit implies that Robinson prepared well and did everything he could. But I guess in Bazball speak anything short of "He is performing at a new, higher level of cricket that no one has ever come close to before" probably registers as criticism.Dunno this reads like criticism to me. Definitely not McCullum's usual tact.
“Everything he did leading into the Test match suggested we’d see not just the Ollie Robinson we’d seen previously but a better version of it,” said McCullum, at the team hotel on Tuesday. “For one reason or another it didn’t quite work out for him. Obviously he’s not just as disappointed as everyone else, he’s the most disappointed out of everyone.”
Doesn't sound like itwill he play next test
What he needs is to play some County Cricket and get his confidence and fitness back (and I'm not just saying this as a Sussex fan). He was horribly mollycoddled at the end of the 2023 season which clearly did no one any favours. The ECB need to stop restricting when he plays because what he actually needs is as much game time as possible. The headlines and framing in the article make it sound like McCullum was reprimanding him or something. AmazingThough a side issue, Robinson’s podcast with social media influencer Mia Baker – his girlfriend – has also frustrated a regime battling with public perception. He revealed a visa error by the management at the start of the tour and, in the episode published on Tuesday after the fourth Test, he marvelled at the luxury of the “private jet” the team took from their mid-series break in Abu Dhabi. At England’s request, the episode has subsequently been taken down.
I think arguably we expected them to stay in India and practice their skills, instead of playing golf in Abu Dhabi. Their performance in the 3rd Test would suggest as much too...But why team using private Jet does damage to public image ? I mean do people in England expect their players to travel in Bus ?
He was going for the Aryan look those with his last name covet. That hairdye killed his gainz. Looked like something out of a 90s boyband.
They were in Abu Dhabi before the test we won. Complete non issueI think arguably we expected them to stay in India and practice their skills, instead of playing golf in Abu Dhabi. Their performance in the 3rd Test would suggest as much too...
nah they went back to play golf during the mid series breakThey were in Abu Dhabi before the test we won. Complete non issue
forgive me for being stupid (standing offer) but why couldn’t they just have golfed in india? seems like taking a plane back to abu dhabi for that would have been, at best, neutral, at worst, something that could impinge on preparation and make them an easy target if things went wrong in the matches which they ultimately didI think arguably we expected them to stay in India and practice their skills, instead of playing golf in Abu Dhabi. Probably not rich enoughforgive me for being stupid (standing offer) but why couldn’t they just have golfed in india?
What’s your point? They were in Abu Dhabi before the first and won. They were there before the third and lost.nah they went back to play golf during the mid series break
You are right of course. The golf had nothing to do it, they just weren't good enough. What’s your point? They were in Abu Dhabi before the first and won. They were there before the third and lost.
The whole ‘they were playing golf’ thing has become a boring meme too.
