Why a batsman when we have at least six players capable of bowling 10 overs? Would it not be better to at least see if any of the bowlers gets plastered in his first few overs?

That'll cause simming difficulties... but I guess it's possible.

Because Pickup has to bowl his 10 as our main bowler - therefore he can't come in for a bowler who's been smashed...

One would question why our main bowler is being selected as 12th man, in that case. Pure gamble on the toss? Why not select another of our weaker (batting wise) bowlers as 12th man, someone who we could put in for seven overs instead, in place of a bowler who gets smashed for three? If all bowlers do well, then you can think about replacing a batsman, I suppose. It just seems like a very odd tactic, that's all. But hey, everyone has their own plan :)

Ill take the rap for this... IMO last ODI we wasted Rueben who basically came on and fielded and thats it... At least in this case if we win the toss we bat and will have a very strong batting lineup then replace Neil with a batsman... If we lose the toss then we are no worse off then the last game...

Yes its a gamble on the toss, however if it pays off then i feel it will place us in a very strong position...

Thing is, im very confident in the teams ability to win even if it does backfire... We have a very strong OD team and IMO we are very close to being #1 in the world...

2nd ODI - Cricket Web XI vs England
at the CW Oval

Welcome one and all to the CW Oval where we can expect a cracker of a cricket match. The weather is perfect and the pitch is beautiful for OD cricket. There should be lots of runs, but the bowlers will remain keen.

The CW XI made an interesting choice of SuperSub for this game, but it has paid off already with Goff winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Ian Markus and Liam Camps have taken their guard, and Daren Gough is preparing to run in...

Game Notes

Neil Pickup was subbed on for David Kearsley at the start of the England innings.
Vikram Solanki was subbed on for James Anderson at the start of the England innings, but did not bat.
Brendon Goff used both his powerplays between the 10th and 21st over.
Michael Vaughan used his first powerplay between the 10th and 16th over, and his second between the 19th and 25th over.

Some nice cricket there from some of the boys Camps, Goffy and Markus played well at the top of the innings. 270 was a good total for out attack to defend, the poms would have got it except for some good bowling by Camps and Pickup. :)

Personally, terrible says it all really :(.

Great innings by camps, and ian great opening stand also by goff everyone else seemed to stuggle but i guess we all came in trying to slog in difficult conditions. Not the best bolwing by the boys but a great team efffort to restrict them and win the match.

Very happy the super sub paid off.. although the batsman in the middle order did struggle a little...

Camps played a blinder, and Neils tight spell was great, and showed that the english are still unsure of quality Legspin...

On the supersub, the feeling on selection at the moment is that basically, hit and miss anyway - Reuben in the first ODI as well as IRL games - Cam White in the super series. so picking a bowler as a supersub, is either going to be a small miss - you either miss an all roudner bowl for a batsman or bats for a bowler.

BUT if you pick a bowler, as we did, every time we win the toss (which should be 50% of the time) we have a specialist batsman bat and then a specialist bowler bowl - which is a massive advantage and if we do have to bowl first, we dont lose out that much anyway - which combined with our massive batting lineup anyway, will be very powerful.
