I'd tend towards the attempted stumping, but he pulled out as he saw the bail fall off, without realising it was dislodged by his gloves. If it was a legit stumping attempt, he would have thrusted his gloves more instead of pulling away.
I tried to believe this a well, until I realised he seemingly notices the bail (imo) whilst its still falling.

If you watch very very closely you see that he seems to start celebrating just before he knocks off the bail.

I'm willing to believe that he did genuinely believe for a moment that it was bowled and the knocking off the bail was just an instinctive reaction and a highly unfortunate coincidence, but wow it's a bad look.

Picking Cummins to bat at 6 would have indeed been a fascinating call

Somewhat ludicrous that domestic matches are a factor in national selection policy leading into a big tournament, though.

They're pretty keen to pack out Adelaide Oval on Saturday. Members are allowed to bring guests. !!!

Think a commercial success note to end the Big Bash on would hold it in good stead for the rejig next season, at least that is what devils' advocacy has brought me.

Australians cheat more than anyone
While Australians are not without their problems, they have never been accused of trying to fix a match.

Match fixing >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all other forms of cheating combined.

That pretty much resolves that question in my mind.

When I originally watched it ,I didn't think much about it and still think the same, for me it looked like he went for the stumping and then pointed down to say his foot was out, I think he was trying to hold back on the stumping till he thought his foot was raised, but he was obviously wrong. On the clip that's posted, the commentators infer he went for the bowled, the kind of shot Johnson was playing, the slog sweep, you can sometimes raise your back foot.Has anyone interviewed Prior about what he was going for?
I remember Haddin doing one similar against NZ a couple of years ago, where he caught the ball in front of the stumps and his gloves took the bails off, I just think sometimes these things happen and they happen fast.

The commentators overheard him on the stump mic appealing for the bowled.

I said it when it happened, and I'll say it again - What I think has occured is that it's clipped the bail, Prior has instinctively gone for the stumping (a keeper trains themself to automatically lunge towards the bails when he takes the ball) and while he's gone forward, the tip of his gloves have touched the bail, but he has not felt that (which is very conceivable), and when he looks down he sees the bail on the ground and assumed the bail has finally fell down as a result of the ball clipping it.

It is my firm belief that no international cricketer is stupid enough to think they can get away with cheating (in the field that is... Afridi aside). Noone tries to claim a catch they know touched the ground. They are either unsure, or they actually genuinely think they took the catch, but the replay shows otherwise.

Yes, there's just no way they can get away with anything, they know that better than we do.These incident always look tons worse in slow motion, rather than looked at, at the speed it happened.

going to see an odd looking team for the last OD game...Paine,Haddin,Ferguson,White,Voges,Duss,Jono,Hasto,Crazy,Tait,Bollinger probably the worst Aus team ive seen in an international fixture.
Rather looking forward for the 1st warmy vs India on 13th.Great chance to test us against the tournament favourites with no pressure.

Do they not have floodlights in Perth or do the organisers just enjoy us having to get up to watch cricket?

Think Benchy's got this one right, he's really not hit the bail off very hard so I think it's genuinely possible he's not felt it and thus not realised the reason it has fallen is due to him knocking it off.

Prior's (and Haddin's btw) reputation is hardly spotless and he hardly added to it with his participation in 2 later referrals that were not even close to being out

Reckon he just had a massive brain snap under pressure and nothing more will come of it, so let's move on

The first clue that he would've received was when he looked down to see the bails still on!

It was a very ugly incident

Why..!? Think he is good enough to make into the second XI, haven't played any List A games yet but still he has shown enough to suggest he is a special talent. Not saying he should come into international contention anytime soon but he certainly would be in my Aussie A side.
Then you'll lose heaps of games. Wouldn't even be getting a game for his state if it wasn't for injuries.

Not denying he looks good for his age but geez, let's be realistic.
