Cricket Web and the Change Bowler of Secrets

Once more we return to Camp's School of Bowlcraft and Battery for more breaking news!

A dastardly attempt has been made upon the lives of our young cricketers, whilst at what has become affectionately known as Camp's Camp. Or is he? A student discovered a diary which then possessed them with it's evil. The diary lead the student to become first change for his house, unleashed Langeveldts monster, and then proceeded to produce some truly nasty deliveries, sending a few students to the infirmary with concussions, bruised and broken ribs, and in one case, a fractured skull.

Luckily our heroes, Cunningham, Toogood and Wilson, stood up to the diary's evil in the nets, literally belting Langeveldt's monster out of the attack, and then destroyed the book together, freeing the student from the clutches of evil and saving Cricket Web once more!

Kennett takes over Camps
Loddy Twinshins

Start transmission.

A recent move by the Council of Red Adolescent Pacemen to involve veteran paceman David Kennett in the training of youth bowlers has backfired somewhat. Whilst being an extraordinary bowler and all round nice guy, Kennett is at times a few beers short of a six pack, so they say. The letter that the council sent to him to inform him of his new position read like this.

Christopher Edgar said:
Dear Mr Kennett,
In honour of your outstanding service we at the Council of Red Adolescent Pacemen hereby offer you the position to take over the operations of ;'o Camps. The youth of today need a bright star to help them become the bowlers the rest of CW envies. We would be pleased if you could take over immediately.

Yours sincerely,
Christopher Owen Matthew Michael Ian Edgar
Chairman of Council of Red Adolescent Pacemen.
It appears that Kennett, not realising there had been a printing error, immediately elected himself as new director of the CWBCC and has since been on the rampage using his believed powers to further strengthen the CW community.

Some people have attempted to persuade him otherwise but we are afraid he has been unwilling to listen, or perhaps is even incapable of doing so. He has even gone so far as to attack his detractors, hospitalising this critic below. I warn those of a gentle disposition, to look away.

Quite a disturbing sight, and we hope Mr Kennett calms down soon.

Captain Wright Gives His Players Licence to Sledge

By Cameron Stanley

Former Red and newly appointed Colts captain Kyle Wright has claimed he has given his players a licence to slege in his first major announcement as captain. The Cricketweb XIs pace spearhead has said that his players should stand up for themselves and not be intimidated by players from other teams looking to get the early upper hand.

"Some players from other teams have taken it upon themselves to start bagging and sledging my players before the season even starts. Some have even been bold enough to critisise me personally." The Colts Captain said.

"I don't mind when they try to get under my skin, if they knew me as well as they think they do, they would they would know that when provoked that is when I bowl my best. What I don't understand is why they are having a go at guys who are yet to play a game. To me that is a poor move, and one I think that will backfire on them.

"We are a new team and have no demons of the past, we are fresh and enthusiastic and if any teams take us easy they will get some rude shocks. I have told my players that they should give as good as they get. We have nothing to prove, nobody is expecting anything from us, if other teams lose against us after talking trash then they will look plain stupid - they can keep talking all they like as far as I'm concerned. While they do that we will concerntrate on how we perform on the field. But, if they want to talk trash I want my players to stand up for themselves and talk back - I don't want any of them taking any backward steps."

Kyle Wright also said he was happy with the way things were progressing and he said that he expected the side to struggle initialy in the first class contests, but he said in the one day format he thinks the Colts can make the finals.

"Yeah, we will probably find it hard, especially early in the season to get some momentum in the first class matches, however we have a team that can really challenge in the one day games. If I were a betting man I would be placing a bet on the yellow uniforms of the colts being worn in the final."

The Colts play their first ever match against Bangladesh tomorrow. All eyes will be on their permoformance.

I was just thinking earlier today that I'd like to position myself as the "on-field antagonist". And now I have license to do so :D

The Great New Rivalry
by Bertrand Bloggs

Ahead of what promises to be a compelling Dev League season, a quickly developing rivalry between CW Red and CW Blue has given the usually tame pre-season friendlies a major edge. Blue and Red finished at the bottom of the table in both forms of the game in Season 8, and some tough games were played towards the end of the season as each team attempted to avoid taking out the wooden spoon. Tensions seemed to have eased during the off-season, but in the days leading up to the announcement of the schedule for Season 9, some harsh words were exchanged in public between members of the two teams. Two members in particular had their differences thrust into the spotlight, with young Blue paceman Travis Demeza and rising-star Red batsman Rob Dauth exchanging insults and sarcastic quips, and with several members of each team coming in on the defence for their teammates the situation quickly escalated.

When the CWBCC released their schedule for Season 9, it included no less than two warm-up friendlies between the Blues and the Reds. Speculation about the potential for a fiery encounter immediately began, and I caught up with second-season Blue all-rounder Sean Fuller after the final Blue training session before opening match to talk to him about it.

Firstly, is there a rivalry developing between Blue and Red, or is it just a bit of hype?
I think there's definately something there. I don't think I should say much more than that, but yeah...

So, how much does this rivalry mean to the Blues?
Oh, well I can't speak for the rest of the team obviously, but for me it's certainly something I'm not going to back down from. I mean, some of the stuff that a few of their players have been coming out with in the pre-season has been ridiculous, not just directed at us but also at the Colts. Insults, bragging... the way they go on you'd think the Reds were a test-standard team. Plus, it's an extra motivational factor for us, which can't hurt at all. I'm not suggesting I want anyone to get hurt out there or anything, but even with experimental line-ups on both sides it would be sweet to score a win, and I'd love to see guys like Dauth and Dobson take a bit of heat. The real competition will begin with the regular season, and we might be able to take an advantage out of these games if we go well.

Can we expect any change in play style from the Blues then?
I don't think Liam will be doing anything different. We'll go out there and play hard cricket as we always do, but obviously there might be a bit more feeling in this game than there would be for a normal pre-season friendly. Normally you'd just want to spend some time in the middle, have a look at the new players, find some form, you know? But I think we really want to win this, and if that means slipping in a couple of extra bouncers or having a word in the ear of the batsman when you're fielding close, well I think a few of us will be up for that.

How about the Blues as a team this year, what are your goals, and who should we watch out for?
Well we want to win everything, don't we? I think we've got a great side, some of the rookies from last season will be hitting their straps, and I think we can beat anyone if we play to our full abilities. I'd definately keep an eye out for big Trav Demeza, he's one of the best young bowlers going around I think, and he's worked hard in the off-season with his club side and the Academy - I think he's going to tear it up this season to be honest. I'd also look out for De Silva, who had a great debut season, and obviously the stars we all know about like Andrew, Liam, Pete and Simon who will be just as keen as the rest of us to have a successful year.

And you as a player?
I just want to keep my place in the team and contribute however I can. If I can improve on last season and we do well as a team, I'll be happy.

Alright, thanks for your time, and good luck tomorrow.
Thanks.
