A bit. I watch all the major races at the Melbourne Spring/Sydney Autumn carnivals, and I try to catch every race that has a NZ-trained horse entered.

The Melbourne spring lost a lot of lustre with the Atlantic Jewel injury. :( Thought she looked like a near-cert in the Cox Plate.

Indeed. The Melbourne Spring has taken a beating already with the likes of Black Caviar, Haylist, AJ, She's a Fox and Lucas Cranach being ruled out. Sadly, a lot of well known Australian horses seem to be dropping like flies of late, Typhoon Tracy died giving berth last week which is a real shame.

If you're into punting then follow a horse called Nextanix this spring. He'll be nominated for most of the big staying races and he's starting to realise his potential. My old man knows both the trainer and the owner, by all reports the horse is flying.

That was sensational. Really thought he'd have to work for this one, but he did it with plenty up his sleeve.

The Arc could be amazing this year. It's a possible target for Frankel, and he'll tower over the field if he does go there. But Camelot, Snow Fairy, Danedream and Nathaniel make for a pretty decent supporting act. Can't wait.

Well, that was a pretty devastating St Leger. Camelot was aiming to be the first horse to win the UK Triple Crown in 42 years, and he ****ing should have done it. He was incredibly unlucky - a certainty beaten, IMO. Ugh. Leaves a hollow feeling in the gut.

Jockey ballsed that up totally. Credit to Barzalona on the winner though, gave that a great ride.

That was a soggy Arc - the slowest since 1999, and 13 seconds slower than last year's. And several of the horses seemed to be really struggling, almost going up and down on the spot.

And an unexpected result - a great resurgence from Solemia after looking well and truly beaten. Not sure what happened with the Japanese horse. He charged to the lead and looked the winner, but then drifted to the inside and slowed right up, throwing away certain victory.

I don't know if it got much publicity in the antipodes, but Michael Chopra (Ipswich Town striker and one of the very few British footballers of Asian descent) is in a bit of strife after allegedly attempting to fix races. From The Guardian.

The article does say that Andrew Heffernan, the jockey who allegedly "stopped" his horses now rides in Oz.

I have quite a few Town supporting mates and the knock is that they paid off £250k of Chopra's debt as part of his transfer and, at one stage last year, he was having to be paid daily because he couldn't be trusted not to blow a week's or a month's salary as soon as he got it.

Pierro loses his undefeated record in the Caulfield Guineas! Pipped at the post by Black Caviar's little half-brother, All Too Hard.

There'll probably be some questions asked about the ride on Pierro - slowly away (possibly not the jock's fault), then VERY wide early in the race.

Yeah he got shunted out very wide and just didn't have that extra burst of speed. We made a killing on All Too Hard's win.

So many multi's included Pierro

Great day for the NZers in Melbourne! So thrilled. Ocean Park was superb in the Cox Plate, and Silent Achiever finally showed the Aussies what she can do as well. Couldn't have been better.

It's a tough one - there's a whole lot in the field I know pretty much nothing about. Of the ones I'm familiar with, I like Americain, Dunaden and Ethiopia. But I just don't know what some of these other Euro horses are going to bring today.
