and it got even worse when Marc Robbins, CW's crunch finisher at all other Cups, whimpered feebly over for a one-ball six
a one-ball ball six would have won us the match8-)

I've already held my hands up and accepted the blame.

I trust that my previous record means that I will retain my spot in the team, but if the selectors decide otherwise, then whoever replaces me will get my full backing.

Although, I'd like to know how someone can be dismissed for a 1-ball 6 in those circumstances?

Super Eights: Cricket Web XI v New Zealand
at PDV Dome

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

After a splendid partnership between Brendan Goff and Chris Butler, Nath Patrick was wrecker in chief as CW XI found the way back to the semi-finals with victory in the PDV Dome. New Zealand were outplayed in all facets of the game, and despite occasional setbacks, CW XI always came up trumps.

After being inserted on a pitch that looked like it would offer help to the bowlers, CW lost both openers within the first five overs, crashing to 16 for two. That, however, brought CW's best partnership of the Super Eight so far - Goff/Butler - together. Both compiled effortless half-centuries against toothless seam bowling. However, when Styris had Goff bowled, the middle order wilted over to the same bowlers, and CW fell to 236 for seven when Chaulk was run out in the 45th over. A crucial cameo from Tom Halsey brought the target up, along with Neil Pickup's last-over six, and CW totalled 270 for eight despite the efforts of Kyle Mills, who picked up four for 46.

When New Zealand batted, they did so in much the same manner as CW XI had. Losing two early wickets - in the same over to Nath Patrick - set them back, but only temporarily, as Astle and Fleming took plenty of runs off the seamers. The change bowlers Camps and Robbins had little luck, as had Patrick - who got carted for 16 in the over after he had taken two wickets - but the tandem spin worked wonders, as usual. Astle reached fifty, then was caught behind off Halsey's bowling, and after a brief cameo from Hamish Marshall Patrick returned to have him caught behind as well. Then followed Styris four overs later, his fourth and final wicket, and New Zealand had crashed to 144 for five.

What followed was clean-up - at least after Fleming had finally been out on 59, some 20 overs after he had been bowled by Camps off a no-ball. Vettori provided brief running skills, hitting 24 off 23 balls without a boundary, while McCullum contributed two maiden overs. The last wicket fell to Liam Camps, who was caught by Halsey for four, to complete the bowl out for 211.

Cricket Web XI 270 for 8 (50 overs) beat
New Zealand 211 all out (47.4 overs) by 59 runs
Man of the Match: Nath Patrick

Solid win, and still some of us are yet to fire in this Tournament - be scary if we all get going in one game (preferably the final!)
