BARNES OUT
I guess the Football WC is taking away some of the attention from the CWXI activities. I always try to come in and read the goings on, but when I'm not directly involved (I know how that sounds) I don't give it quite as much priority. I read it all, but I don't always post.

Same. When CW play I'll post and the like, but when it's just these group matches, I'll have a look but won't post.

Yeh, for sure the soccer is taking attention away from the Cricket WC here. Im certainly not checking it out or posting as much as I would like.

Excellent wins for NZ and Pak.

How have the cricket attendances at the WC been impacted by running at the same time as the football? :)

I've been checking the forum, but like others have said, since I'm not really involved I don't have much to add.

Fixed.

Going to sim Oz v WI now, so the Super Eights can actually start.
No no. That's my responsibility.

I'll sim it now.

Then you can write the match report.

EDIT: Australia v England, actually.

England enter the match needing a convincing win over Australia to qualify for the Super Eights ahead of the West Indies.

Group A - Australia v England
at Sydney

Scorecard
Ball by Ball

Despite fine batting performances from Marcus Trescothick, who capitalised on a drop on 44 to make 90, Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff, England failed to defend their huge total at the SCG, and bow out of the World Cup at a disappointingly early stage.

Brett Lee bowled with pace and threat throughout, and deserved his four wickets, but apart from him and Bracken no one could keep the pressure up. Spinners Symonds, Clarke and Katich bowled 18 overs for 117 runs, but were still preferred to Tait and Gillespie, as Australia were shown up by thumping innings from Flintoff and Pietersen and nonchalant treatment by Trescothick.

Had England batted second, they might have made it. However, Australia now knew what they needed, and even though Plunkett and Mahmood took wickets to set Australia back to 54 for two, Gilchrist was dominant. Charging past 50 and 100 with ease, he never gave a chance against England's bowling - which generally dropped two feet too short - and with Michael Clarke chipping in with 65 in a stand of 164, the match had swung firmly Australia's way. Michael Hussey rounded off the match with two boundaries, ruining Gilchrist's chance of 150, but Australia have shown their intent to chase any target set in this tournament.

Australia 306-4 (48.5 overs) beat
England 304-7 (50 overs) by 6 wickets
Man of the Match: AC Gilchrist

Extras the real difference there. Both teams not bowling well = lack of spinners.

Australia's win means they go through in first place, while West Indies make it into second and will play CW XI at the CW Oval later on today.

Fixture list:

CW XI v West Indies, CW Oval, July 4
CW XI v New Zealand, PDV Dome, July 6
CW XI v Australia, Westpac Stadium, July 11
CW XI v India, 'Gabba, July 16
CW XI v Pakistan, Telstra Dome, July 20
CW XI v South Africa, Telstra Dome, July 24

And I'm supposed to sim it (live sim in 10-12 hours from now, so that's some time around 9pm GMT, 10pm London time), so Liam, can you send me the files from your group so I can get the morale right?
