Pickup in charge for Tour opener

Brendon Goff will not participate in the West Indies tour opener, and Neil Pickup will instead lead the Cricket Web XI against Trinidad and Tobago. With a team packed with bowling options, the scrap will be on to decide the bowling attack for the first Test.

The game will be played at Guaracara Park on a notoriously flat wicket where runs are typically scored quickly and comfortably.

It was simmed over 24 hours ago, but I was unavailable since. Here it is now though:

Cricket Web XI vs Trinidad and Tobago
at Guaracara Park

Thamba Mamesh lit up the last day at Guaracara Park, as rain ultimately played spoil-sport in a tame draw. The right-handed strokeplayer took the attack to the Trinidadian attack and ended unbeaten on 79 when the rains brought play to an early close.

The Webheads reached 139/2 in their second innings, after a Brian Lara special accounted for a 28-run split on first innings. Lara frustrated the Cricket Web bowlers with a glorious innings of 124 of a total of 243 all out. Striking 18 fours in his 175-ball innings, he was dropped on 65, but otherwise negotiated all the bowlers with total ease, authority, and masterclass.

Neil Pickup had elected to bat first on the opening day of the match, as conditions suggested it to be the most logical decision. It was greeted with a series of loose strokes and a general lack of fluency, however, and Mervyn Dillon wrapped things up early on day 2 with a five-wicket haul.

Cricket Web XI 1st Innings 215 all out
Trinidad and Tobago 1st Innings 243 all out
Cricket Web XI 2nd Innings 139 for 2
Match Drawn.

Well played boys. Some positives from that match for sure. Really dissapointing that im out there for over 120 balls and only getting into the 20's. Owell lets keep it goin boys and keep improving.

Must say the first innings effort was disheartening, especially on a "perfect batting pitch". We only got a total that high because they dropped eight catches in that innings, too... We only dropped three, which is great, although one could have taken a good 50-60 runs off Lara's total.

Still, from the time the first innings was over things were a lot more promising, not just the limited dropped catches (knowing this sim, 3 dropped catches is hardly a poor effort), but almost all the bowlers took wickets and the Mamesh did well in his second innings, as well as Butler high scoring in the first (even if it was only 30) and looking good at the crease when the rain fell.
