Jon Lewis I think the last gloucestershire guy to play for England 11 years ago. As a glos fan I'm kind of desperate to see a glos player play for England again.
There haven't been many, have there. I'd struggle to raise even half of a Goucs and England XI from since I started watching in the early 1970s.
Obviously Jack Russell. David Lawrence. Jon Lewis, as you said. Presumably you can think of any others. Was Bill Athey playing for Gloucs when he played for England in the late 1980s? Alleyne for the one-day side of course. Who was the guy who played his one test against Australia at Leeds in 1997? Famously saw Thorpe drop a slip catch and was never seen again.

Meanwhile Worcs should have a handy first innings lead, which is probably worse news for Yorks and Lancs than Surrey, who should be able to raise the points needed to win the CC whatever happens in this game.

Alastair Cook to skip end of Essex's County Championship season | Cricket News | Sky Sports

Cook not available for final games of season. Enjoying the last few weeks of his central contract. Joining

'Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes are also unavailable for the final fixtures.'

They fly out to Sri Lanka at the end of this month apparently for the ODIs so no surprise the 3 format players are getting a rest.

I wonder if Cook would have made himself available if Essex had been in the frame at either end of the table. As it is, he must be mentally and physically exhausted, plus his wife is about to give birth.

Yes Mike Smith with the solitary test cap. Athey was before my time. Martyn Ball did make one test tour to India iirc although didn't play.

Around the turn of the century they were an excellent 50 over side although Alleyne and Snape were the only two who had a few appearances for england iirc.

Yes cook's break is certainly well deserved. Essex could still go down looking at the table.

Gloucs well known for Wally Hammond and Tom Graveney. Better times I'm sure. Always seems a good atmosphere when you see a ODI in Bristol.

Matt Milnes has joined Kent from Notts.

Cracking finish in prospect at Leeds. Yorkshire probably favourites now, except that Vilas and Bohannan pulled off an even less likely chase a couple of weeks ago,

The raiding of the smaller counties contiues as Notts sign the talented but injury prone Zak Chappell on a 3-year deal from Leicestershire. Much needed the more you think of it if he can stay on the park. Looks like Joe Clarke is net on the list.

Zak Chappell has agreed a three-year deal with Nottinghamshire.

Chappell, the 22-year-old Leicestershire all-rounder, has been limited to 14 games in his first-class career but, such is his obvious promise, was the subject of interest from several of the richest county sides including Surrey, Warwickshire and Lancashire.

Chappell becomes the second Leicestershire player to leave as an improved season under coach Paul Nixon nears its end: Ben Raine, a powerful allrounder, is also returning to his native north-east after agreeing terms with Durham.

Capable of bowling fast and powerful batting, Chappell made 96 from No. 10 on first-class debut and has this season taken his Championship wickets at a cost of 15.93. While there are some concerns about his injury record, such is his high potential - he is an all-rounder somewhat in the Andrew Flintoff mould - many clubs were prepared to take a chance on him.

"We are really disappointed to lose Zak as he was an important player across all formats for us," Paul Nixon, the Leicestershire head coach said. "He has bowled some excellent spells of fast bowling and made some useful scores with the bat.

"We really wanted him to continue his development with us, and we made him a very good offer to keep him with us. Sadly, Zak has opted to sign for Nottinghamshire to play Division One cricket, and the club wishes him well in the future."

Chappell's departure will remind Leicestershire supporters of another transfer of a tall, fair-haired fast bowler that forever aggrieves them - that of Stuart Broad 11 years ago.

His move sustains a strong recruitment drive from Nottinghamshire who have already added Ben Duckett and Ben Slater to their side in recent days. In the case of Chappell, it is understood he was impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment of Peter Moores, the Notts head coach, to his development. It is understood the club also remain keen to attract 22-year-old Joe Clarke to Trent Bridge. It will not have gone unnoticed that all those players have developed at non-Test grounds.

"The opportunity to test myself playing Division One cricket with Nottinghamshire is an opportunity that I couldn't turn down," Chappell said. "I want to play for England in the future, and I think the best chance to do that is by playing in Division One.

As I said, if Lancs go down Bunny and Keats would've bought exactly one extra year of division one cricket by moving! There is often more an element of, from the frying pan into the fire.

In Durham news, Collingwood retires and Barry McCarthy will sadly leave because of the whole Ireland/test status thingy.

Well when you sign relegation fodder then what do you expect?

You could argue both Lancs & Worcs as relegation fodder in Div 1 are much stronger than Warwickshire, Kent, Sussex and Middlesex so they would bounce back up quite easily if they kept their players.

You sure Mccarthy is leaving?

I heard some Irish lads are sticking round.
Their will be a court case next year on eligibility of Irish representing Ireland and playing county cricket.
I'd gather the lgoic is Mccarthy is a fringe state players, and would therefore choose Ireland.

Paul Striling signed a 4 year contract at Middlesex.Gather he will hope the court decision goes his way.

What about Gary WIlson hr is firsts Derby and Irish t20 captain.
