I've long been disappointed with Notts academy system. Taylor, Broad & Gurney all born & bred in Notts but came through Leicestershire's academy. Derby & Nottingham are so close that in football academies you often see Derby lads at Forest academy & vice versa. We obviously just got Slater from Derbys & Duckett from Northants but lets not forget some of the other talented lads that have left Northants for other clubs. Cold hard facts is thatva Northants won't be able to hold on to a Allan Lamb anymore. Panesar and Swann felt they had to leave Northants to further their careers. It's actually under stated how well Northants do.It is probably because the midlands are so congested that your little midlanders - Northants, Leics and Derbys - seem weak. Notts seem to be ruthlessly prowling around the periphery. Some of these clubs resemble feeder teams.
What I have noticed is a lot of Lincolnshire lads are at Notts academy at the moment and thats where Matthew Carter (Notts) & Zak Chappell (Leics) are from.
Over to the West Midlands it seems like the other main Midlands club in Warwickshire got lazy with their academy system too. Majority of their players are "outsourced". Since Bell it has really only been Woakes & new boy Brookes. A little bit of Hain but he played Aussie u19s.
So it then takes you to Worcestershire who keep producing local players from Worcs & Shropshire. I think it's important to remember the smaller counties. That's where Somerser do well with Devon & Lancashire with Cumbria. Lincolnshire seems open to all the east midlands teams.
So how many will leave Worcestershire this summer then ? For all the talk they've only lost Davies & Kohler-Cadmore in recent seasons.
