fair enough, but poor is a bit of a strong word to describe him. A poor ODI bowler currently would be someone like Plunkett (up until the other day), Kabir Ali, Balaji, Sami etc. Labelling him as an average ODI bowler would be more suitable.

The bowlers you listed would be described as rubbish ODI bowlers (except Sami who I would just put in the poor category). Poor ODI bowlers would be those in the lower echelon of those selected to play ODI cricket regularly - which is where I would class Stuart Clark. He's not awfully out of his depth but I think Australia have better bowlers to choose from and I don't think he'll have a prosperous ODI career.

LOL! If thats from one of his 'biggest' fans I wonder what the rest are like! ;)

Agree though, I like Franklin too, but often especially against a good batting line-up or in poor bowling conditions, he looks far too ordinary. Sideshow Mills brings some batting too, so it is not as if we lose Franklin's batting abilities.

That was a great 6 today though, absolutely superb.

(Btw the chanel 9 moron commentators are as bad as ever I see, or rather, hear - unfortunately)

Agreed. I do not think he is all that flash in tests either. IMO he will, most likely, have an ordinary ODI career and a good test career. Nothing exceptional though.

Just a quick thought. When was the last time Bond got a wicket in his first spell?

He really does seem like a shadow of his former self this summer. Shame really

Clark actually bowled pretty well today aside from the death overs IMO. I think he'd probably be a better ODI bowler if he got the chance to bowl with the new ball, but it's unlikely he's going to any time in the near future, even after McGrath retires, given that Lee and Bracken take it most games. I don't think he's incapable of bowling well in the format, but he's probably pretty close to losing his place at the moment. Lee, Bracken, McGrath and Hogg are all certain to make the WC squad, so that leaves two spots for Johnson, Clark and Tait to share. If Tait gets another run in New Zealand, he may have a chance to move ahead.

The one thing Clark has in his favour is that the Australian selectors favour having players in common across the two formats. Given that Clark and Lee will be the spearheads of the test attack in the forseeable future, Clark will get plenty of chances to cement his spot in the ODI team.

What's happened to Hilfenhaus? The one ODI was just a thank-you for his bowling form this season?

I've noticed the deafening cries for Hayden's head from you Australians have died down somewhat in the last few games

Yes. I was talking about it with a mate the other day.

And frankly, Bond should retire after the WC - his bowling is not what it was, though still better than most in the NZ ranks, and he should save his back while he can.

I think he has lost about 5 - 10 kph of pace, but more than that he has lost some of his zip off the deck.

Have you? After the game two days ago there were at least 3 or 4 people in this thread saying they weren't convinced about him. Obviously nobody is saying he should be dropped right now, because you can't drop a guy who is making runs, but I'd still feel more comfortable in the WC with someone else partnering Gilchrist at the top of the order.

And he is losing his records!! Dont think he has the best SR anymore, and his average is now a very human 20

Because he's justifying his selection now, obviously. If anyone called for his head now, they'd be called a flaming idiot given his form. That ton where he got dropped several times seems to have done wonders for his confidence and his form and he's going on with it.

Yeah Gilly tends to get rushes of blood to the head, like Jayasuriya. One of the reasons I love watching the both of them bat! Still, we really needed that wicket.
