I assume Voges is injured? If not, he's been dudded big time by the selectors. Ah well, good luck to Hussey if he makes his debut.

EDIT: Actually, I reckon they should play Hussey anyway, and Haddin, give Clarke & Ponting a rest.

Yesteday's game was the perfect example of the flaws in the system .
If the game was to be reduced to 20 overs after australias innings according to This Srilanka would had to had 135 to chase in 20 overs which after their start of the 30 in 3 overs would have been very easy.
The old ball was tougher to score from and d/l system does not account for this also.

The sample is from cricinfo and there have been only 51 finished duckworth lewis game.
As for the india - srilanka game a correct score would have been hard to establish so according to me atleast games who have had full innings for one side and less overs for another should not be reduced less than 30 or 35 overs as it could have adverse affect unless both captain agree.
This is an entirely different argument to criticising the D/L system - suggest that rained-out games should not be shortened to the extent that they are. Ultimately in the financial state that the modern game is in, as much cricket must be played as possible, so ODIs are always going to be shortened out like this.

Re: Aus-SL yesterday, Sri Lanka would have had their target revised to 141 in 20 overs, not 135 - ODIs use the professional software, not the standard system.

Of course it is not perfect, but the fact remains that truncated ODIs do need to have results manufactured in this method and either the VJD or D/L system needs to be used. I personally can see more sense in having different calculation tables for each country or region in terms of ground conditions and average scoring patterns, but there is little point criticising a principle without an alternative.

Once more shown lack of balls to bring on right changes. Dilshan is not an opener. He can suceed there, but he's better suited for the single running game, more than blasting boundries.

Kumar to open. Kulasekara out. One more chance for Silva. and Dilruwan Perera in.

My XI for next match - Jayasuriya, Sangakkara, Silva, Jayawardane, Dilshan, Kapugedara, Dilruwan Perera, Maharoof, Vaas, Malinga, Muralitharan
I suggested SL having extra batsman because of this even before the loss.

Pretty pathetic batting from eveeryone Mahela, Sanath and Chamara Silva.

Against India worth giving Welagedera a game....Any further loss and SRI LANKA are dead set out and the CB series becomes 2 horse race.

Hussey's playing for Victoria against N.S.W. at the moment right? First time I can remember a player being called up for Australia while still playing a domestic game.

Good point, he was actually bowling for Victoria yesterday as well so It would be quite strange if he does play today.

Is this right - pulling a player out of a domestic match before that game is finished ?

Happens in grade cricket regularly; a grade player plays one week, gets picked for his state half-way through the game and plays state instead.

There are precidents, I think Dory may have been called up in similar circumstances. Its not ideal but there is a possible injury.

Seems very strange with Haddin also in the squad as a reserve batsmen.
Yeah, Haddin is somewhat of an odd selection. As a specialist batsman, he is ill-suited as a 12th or 13th man in a squad where the batting lineup is set in concrete. I mean, who out of Hayden all the way through to M Hussey is he going to replace? The only guys who he has replaced so far are Hopes and Hogg, who both offer something with the ball, whereas he does not. At least, with David Hussey, he can bowl some overs and is therefore probably more suited to being the 12th or 13th man in this squad.

Sehwag out, and replaced by Munaf. A bit surprising, Praveen Kumar may have been another choice. With Yuvraj going through a slump, Indian batting line up is a little thin - and we may even see Irfan or Uthappa opening so the relatively settled Gambhir-Rohit-Dhoni lineup can stay where they are. They have to fire today, India's chasing too - which points to Uthappa staying for the finisher job.
