Nah this is a pretty outstanding batting track. SL didn't even bowl incredibly well and we only have ourselves to blame for our sub-par total. Some level headed batting will see Lanka win this easy.

Sri Lanka to win by 5 wickets. Sangakkara 80+ not out.

A couple of things here. Firstly, Gilly you absolute legend. Never has there been one like him, never will there be another one. The ovation he got was thoroughly deserved, I was standing in my living room applauding as well as I'm sure was the rest of the world.

Brilliant fight back by Sri Lanka, they've got a real chance here as long as their middle/lower order provides Mahela and Kumar some support. With regards to Sunil Gavaskar, Ian Healy is as much a disgrace in the Channel 9 commentary box as Sunil is in the Star Sports one. Both of them not doing the role of a 'neutral' commentator at all.

Would need atleast 150 odd for us to win TBPH.

Watching Kulasekara take wickets is like watching Muburak score runs. It funny cus he should never happen at International level. Has improved since he last played though.

good bowling / poor catching / generally solid ground fielding

The Aussie's seemed to lose the plot there, but I'm sure they'll come out with a vengeance after dinner. We were in a similar position in Sydney, and if we were to loose here, it would have to be the mother of all ****s ups.

Haha Chappell. Comm box is joking that Haddin should just throw the ball underarm to Gilchrist next time after nearly giving away another 4 overthrows and he responds:

"Reckon he should have a chat with my younger brother, do you?"

Anyways, great start from SL.

Yeah, barring a Sanga special, don't see how Lanka can win this wpdavid.

Johnson meanwhile is improving every match but that was not the reason for the wicket. Another unnecessary shot, another wicket.

Haha, yeah. Nearly broke the TV when he yelled out "Stop appealing!" when there was a half appeal for a caught behind from a Gilchrist cut shot when he was in the late 90s.

Mark Nicholas, the expert on Australian player body language; "Brett Lee ducks his head when he knows he's got his man." Sometimes the man speaks much but says little.....

Punter missing what wasn't a sitter at slip but still should have taken it. He was a bit late on it, slow getting up. His back again? If so, what the hell is he still doing playing cricket? Not as if he's hitting lots of runs. Injured, like anyone, he's a liability with the bat and, on today and the other catches he's put down this summer, in the field. Get him out to recover, the schedule is heavy enough in the next year without carrying an injured captain.

Love how Lawry says Ponting is just in front of Sangakkara right now. Not on form....

This is just too easy for them atm.
Don't be so pessimistic, these are SL's two best batsmen in right now. One or two more wickets and the Aussies are well and truly into a nick-and-nudge middle-order. If they're still out there at the 30th, then it might be time to panic.

Interesting that Ponting has opted for the Powerplay with these two well set and the runrate so healthy. I'd have preferred to try and tie them down for a while, wait for the mistake and use the PP with lesser batsmen at the crease.

EDIT
Sure enough, Jayawardene goes. Ah well, obv Ponting know rather better than I do about these things.

Great ball from Johnson to a bloke batting really, really well. Shame, Jayawardene was looking very slick after that square drive. One more and things will get really tough for SL because, as happened in the Aussie innings, I expect scoring to be very difficult once the ball gets old.

Johnson; showing a lot this summer, I reckon. Smart cricket and ability to knock over top-order poles consistently.

EDIT: Ponting getting up from that catch very gingerly for a normally athletic man. Again, I ask what he's doing out there.

Overs are not the crucial aspect of this game. Getting one of these two batsmen early, preferably Sangakarra but more likely Jawardene as he wasn't looking comfortable against the swing before the batsmen were more settled was always pretty vital...
