I wonder sometimes if Martin Crowe might have been able to help Allen develop a more robust approach. He was apparently mentoring him when he was a teenager and might have been able to work with him the way he did with Taylor and Guptill.
Yep he would've massively beneficial for Finn. There's really no one of that aura and knowledge in NZ, who knows the core of batsmanship but is also able to see its application and worth in the shortest forms.

These young guys are generally growing up under the tutelage of fathers coaching that think T20 is all swinging merrily from the hip.

People have claimed for years that even in the age of T20, there will be a place for "proper" long-form cricket simply because that's where you learn how to bat properly and get the fundamentals right, and so those players are the ones who will succeed in T20s as well - between Allen and blokes like JFM, we might be seeing that come to fruition.

Couldn't possibly agree with this more.

Might work at times on flat decks, small grounds, average bowling etc, and to be fair that'll probably get you paid.

But as Finn is finding out now and JFM has as well, it's hard to bosh sixes when your technique has failed and you're out.

Another thing we're seeing with those two is if your form goes at all you have absolutely nothing to back it up

Probably a useless anecdote in terms of professional cricketers but I went from a #9-10 in park cricket to someone who was eventually picked as an allrounder and opened the batting several grades higher almost entirely just by watching the Martin Crowe masterclass batting videos and changing my technique.
