***Official*** Bangladesh Tour of South Africa 2017

Siboto and Frylinck. One looks like he needs a good meal and the other is three stone overweight. Why no Dane Paterson, unless he is an automatic selection?
I'd say Frylinck deserves a call up just so it can show the other players in our Domestic set up that there is always a way to receive a potential call up. Might help with the Kolpak exodus. He isn't a world beater but he has been good domestically for a long time. Maybe I'm bias though, I'm a Durban /Dolphins boy.

Watched today’s play; that was dispiritingly meek by Bangladesh. The sort of performance you’d expect from them circa 2004.

With them becoming a force at home and some improved away performances even their worst batting efforts shouldn’t be as weak as this.

Quality bowling from SA; they’re as dangerous a bowler down as Gordon Greenidge was when he needed a runner!

Maharaja continues to impress; his guile and ability to deceive makes him one of the better Test spin bowlers to watch atm.
Yeah really impressed by Maharaj (In the context of a South African spinner lol )

Heck of an interesting selection... some good and surprising names there. Interesting that Phehlukwayo has not been picked.

Was thinking that Phehlukwayo & Paterson will probably be in the 50-over squad.

JP & AB just using the game time.

Probably.

I'm no Parnell fan but he can bowl the odd superb spell. I'd trust him to pick up more wickets than Paterson, who always struck me as a LO bowler.
When they've bowled together in Sunfoil Series for the Cobras Parnell was the chief destroyer with the ball and got a 100 with the bat.

Parnell will always frustrate me. You know he can do so much but he rarely delivers.

Siboto's been such a late bloomer... Difficult when a paceman only starts gathering momentum at 30. In his 17 franchise matches Dala has taken 19 wickets @ 76,4 with a S/R over 100... He should never have been anywhere near SA A. I know you're thinking quota, but there are black bowlers who are doing a much better job than that (I think he has the worst average of anyone currently in Sunfoil Series). The reason he was picked is more pace than anything else. If you can bowl 145km/h you already half way to being in the SA side it sometimes feels. (Compare to Philander, who was ignored for so long, simply because he was "too slow"...) Paradoxically, he has been taking a decent number of wickets in white ball cricket, though at far too high an economy rate. I guess Phehlukwayo also pushed himself into the test side through one-day performances. People seem to be really underrating his batting; solid eye. I could see him averaging close to 30 in tests IF his bowling can keep him in the side.

you know that bc your system's proper ****ed when u have to pick white people to stop them leaving the country for lack of opportunity bc your government has decided to force you to pick coloured people for perceived lack of opportunity because cricket isn't as big in those communities because of the times the team only picked white people, you've gone the full circle lol

2222 there is my benaud lol

Liton Das correctly received plaudits for his glove work in this Test, some wonderful work particularly the pre-empted catch of Bavuma down the leg side. However, his leave on the last day when batting has to be up there with the biggest misjudgement in Test batting! He was leaving a ball that would have thumped into leg stump! Has a very decent first-class record with the bat so hoping that was just a brain fade.

Faf has done this many a time.....

Feel sorry for Das though because he had been recieving a number of short balls that went away from... it makes the leave just a bit more understandable in context.

Yes of course in context it makes a little more sense, and I only watched the highlights so it was a dismissal in relative isolation, still haven't seen too many dismissals with such a misjudgement, the delivery tailed in rather than any excessive swing or nip off the deck. I'm sure it'll only be a one-off for Das, just one of those things.

Mushfiq threw the bowlers under the bus. I've no complains tbh. Harsh or not they deserved it. Also mr so called captain needs to take the responsibility of stupid decisions such as bowling first here but as usual he blamed it on so called management. Then why are you the captain for muppet show? Batsmen also deserved criticism after the horror show in 2nd Innings.

Long time fast bowler for Free State too. Played with Corrie van Zyl and Allan Donald.

The pitch for the second Test between South Africa and Bangladesh in Bloemfontein will provide some assistance for the fast bowlers.

This assurance was given by the Manguang Oval’s groundsman, Nico Pretorius.

“The pitch here will definitely have something in it for the fast bowlers," Pretorius told Netwerk24.

Pretorius said he was reluctant to roll the pitch too much because there was not as much grass cover as there would be with more rainfall later in the season.

The news will be welcomed by the Proteas, after captain Faf du Plessis had expressed his disappointment at the pitch for last week’s first Test in Potchefstroom.

According to Du Plessis, there was not enough bounce in the pitch at Senwes Park.

"I was really disappointed with the conditions. They were not what we asked for. Hopefully there will be a bit more grass on the pitch in Bloemfontein,” Du Plessis said.

"I have always been a guy that's very honest in reflection. If it was a good wicket, I praise and I give credit.

"But conditions-wise when you play countries like Bangladesh, it is important that you try and make sure whatever you get from the wicket gives your team some sort of advantage.

"There wasn't much advantage for any team in these conditions. The good thing was that the groundsman said the wicket won't spin and for three-and-a-half days or probably four days, the wicket didn't spin off the straight so that was pleasing to see. We got that right."

Should in theory be an ever sterner test for Bangaldesh in the second then, would imagine Rabada will be rubbing his hands at the prospect. That said, it may only be Rabada that Bangladesh will be exceptionally wary of in these conditions with Morkel now missing along with a host of their star studded attack.

Tamim now out of the 2nd Test to reduce Bangladesh's hopes of being competitive further. Injuries occur and it's a shame for both Tamim and Bangladesh, but it brings into sharper focus for me the decision by Shakib to request a rest for this series. I appreciate being a three-format cricketer that is in demand by franchises for the shortest form of the game that he has a busy schedule, a lot of travelling, maybe not a whole heap of downtime and so feeling jaded comes with the territory when you are chasing money in T20 cricket (and that's not a criticism) all over the world.

In 2017 Shakib has played just 7 Tests, 11 ODI's and 5 T20's for Bangladesh, that isn't a great deal of cricket for his country, yet he decides he needs a rest from Test cricket! Perhaps if he managed his commitments better or the BCB managed his schedule better and put his country ahead of a whole host of T20 competitions then maybe he could be playing in an important Test series in South Africa. As a player this is surely a series you want to be part of ? A real test of your skills as a proper cricketer in conditions you're not overly familiar with and in a side that are hugely reliant upon your ability.

I get that Shakib may be fatigued, he is of course returning for the ODI's and T20 part of the tour though. Again another example of a cricketer favouring the shorter formats over the serious cricket, and again the seduction of cash, I don't blame them for earning as much money as they can during their career, it just shouldn't come at the expense of missing Test series when your side needs you.

Without Tamim could be looking at another sub 100 score. Except Morkel's missing so I suppose it evens out. But it doesn't make Shakib look good.
