Man the Basin has delivered so many average matches in the last ten years
Good to see you're coming around. I thought you got defensive at me the other day when I suggested something similar.

Also good to hear Styris prepared to discuss the elephant in the room, the nature of many NZ pitches that don't deteriorate.

Well I think what you said about them preparing grounds to not favour NZ was rubbish. It's pretty clearly the nature of the ground now. Rip it up.

They could play for two years on this pitch and not get a result.

And the crowd is out in force to see this exciting clash.

At least it's good for Latham to finally get a big long innings under his belt. Hopefully he takes this skill with him in future.

Yeah I did suggest that & I stick by it. We're terrible at ensuring our pitches suit the home side as well as possible relative to who we're playing.

This means preparing quite different wickets when we play a side like Bangers, than when we play a side like Australia, I don't think there's enough emphasis on customising wickets dependent on our opposition. This should also be a factor in the scheduling of the locations well in advance. Example, if we're playing Australia, low bouncing green wickets would be the order of the day, whereas playing Bangers, you want more pace and bounce if possible.

Ole clueless Nicholls, good for him to get out now though - he was slowing this innings down to a crawl.

Wtf is De Grandhomme doing? Expecting to use Nicholl's bat when he gets out there?

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
lol @ Richardson's anti-Australia rant

Also, one of the worst 50s I've seen in that, there were a number of time Nicholls hit the ball and literally had no idea where it went.

NZ Test Cricket would be better off with no Basin Reserve tests.
Wellington traffic would be better off with no Basin Reserve.

Put two and two together.

I'd love to see a DeGrandhomme ton here, A: Because it'd be good watching, B: Because it'll advance the game further than anyone else is likely to do.

Agree, there's 83 overs scheduled in the day, ideally if we could go at 4.5-5s for 70 of them & then declare with a slight lead, and have a crack for 10 overs tonight. Possibly if Latham can bat on & our middle order bat positively, but aggressively.

For the short-term future of NZ cricket, I'm pleased Nicholls' didn't ton up, simply because he's clearly not up to it IMO. Hopefully in spite of his fighting 50, they've seen enough to know he's below Test standard.

Really, really soft dismissal that. Batting had been looking ridiculously easy; you won't get an easier opportunity to make a test century.

Will be interesting to see what happens if CDG gets in. Can imagine he'll be v aggressive.

Ideal innings from Nicholl. Good enough to keep us in the game; bad enough that no one in their right mind would see it as evidence that he deserves a place in the team.

With the exception of Nicholls. Every other batsmen in the match made it look easy, Nicholls made it look as though he was fighting through on some green paddock.
