*Official* Bangladesh in New Zealand 2016/2017

no matter how many balls nicholls faces he looks the same after 100 balls as he did when he walked it. I admire his grit but he just doesn't seem to have "it".
It reminds me of a late nineties, early 00s style selection whenever Matt Sinclair fell out of favor, going to someone who had never shown any consistency in first class cricket and thinking they were going to somehow do it at the higher level. What I don't get is why they've persisted with him, especially given the form being witnessed by guys like Broom, Munro, Neesham, Anderson who would all be better options at 5. I'm honestly surprised that if they're going to keep punting with Nicholls, that they didn't give the other inconsistent but obviously good in the team sheds player Guptill a go at 5.

Bang could still lose this - if NZ scored at 4.5 (as they were for large chunks of today) - they'll be out of deficit with 100 odd overs left to play, stranger things have happened.
Yep. New Zealand don't even need a lead to put them under pressure. Just get close to them and it puts the team batting in the 3rd innings in a very awkward situation. Those collapses are really common.

Jfc, Blocky is sucking my will to live.
Your fault for reading his posts tbf

With 2 whole days to go BD could still lose this. Like I said, a NZ victory is more likely from here than a BD one. BD's bowling isn't finding much from this surface - Mirage is still adjusting to it, Shakib is tired, the quicks are all finding little bits of reverse swing and uneven bounce, but that's not enough to trouble the NZ batsmen, and they aren't able to string together a consistent sequence of good balls anyways.

The half-chances produced by Mirage will encourage them though, and we will have the second new ball tomorrow. They just gotta keep plugging away at it and take their chances. If BD get the first innings lead, I can see them trying to bat as long as possible, trying to first ensure the draw before daring to declare and push for a win. If BD don't get the first innings lead, NZ can look to blow them away and make it a 1 innings shoot out.

Gonna try to be up early tomorrow to watch all this unfold. Exciting times.

A troll NZ victory against twice-declaring Bangladesh is also not out of the question. There have been a lot of 300+ scores chased down in the final innings in NZ First Class cricket in recent years, some even with apparent ease and at high run rates. Many of the wickets just become easier and easier to bat on and several sides that have bossed a match and set a large fourth innings target looking for 10 wickets, have been bitten and beaten.

Good work from Latham btw, WAG. Ugly dismissals from Raval and Taylor. Williamson's was very reminiscent of him against Hazelwood earlier in the year in NZ - those soft hands don't work quite so well when the ball holds its line and the edge is fine.

They'll have to bat 30 or so of those remaining overs just to get into a sizable lead, then bowl Bangladesh out inside 50 overs, and maybe chase a few. Absolutely nailed on draw, this one.

Then again, we thought the same about the recent MCG Test.

They don't need to get a big lead at all though. As long as they get reasonably close, all the pressure will be on Bangladesh, because at that point, NZ can't really lose.

I think that only Australia (and possibly SA) have the attack to take 20 wickets on pitches like these against reasonably competent batting sides. Unless Bangladesh get really jittery, I can't see them finding a way to lose this.

Find out soon. Believe the 2nd test of the South African series is at the Basin. South Africa couldn't force a result there 5 years ago, though that was mainly due to the inclement weather.

Nah, could declare 100 behind and ask Bangladesh to set a target.

But looking at the weather Wellington is famous for, the webcams suggest that there will be a delayed start.

You'd say get to 400 and then start to go at it; especially with hitting power like De Grandhomme there.

Bit weird to take the second new ball and give the first over to a spinner.
Very first over of the innings was the spinner, that was weirder.

Cricinfo have put the ODIs, set to take place tomorrow ahead of this test on their page.

The end is nigh.
Or... it's showing you news that's relevant to your country, as it does with anyone logging in from a region. For instance, this test is front and center if you're a NZ or Bangladeshi.

England have been lower down if not playing tests if my memory serves me right.

Either way the post was facetious. Nobody will tell me anything till my death bed that test cricket isn't the pinnacle of sport.

This comes from someone where football means more that cricket when it comes to pure emotion.
