He's an attractive batsman to watch in the OD's I've seen of him, I haven't seen a ball of his debut Shield match though.

There was a thread the other day picking the best players from Australia 22 years old and under and he made my team so I'll be watching with interest how he goes for WA.

The problem for him is that when S Marsh and M Hussey return he's likely to miss out. In the current game I'm thinking WA will declare overnight, so Beaton is likely to finish on 72*.

In the current QLD vs NSW match I'm looking forward to watching Corey Barsby bat!

Ronald McDonald injured with a calf-strain again. I'm not aware how serious it is, or if he will return this season. He looked like he was struggling throughout the Big Bash and this is a pretty major blow for Victoria's chances in the remaining two competitions.

Did anyone else find it very unusual that Nick Kruger has never bowled a first class over in 16 games, then he bowls 23 in this game? Tasmania lacking a true 5th bowling option hurt them badly today, perhaps more should be asked of Cosgrove with the ball.

To be fair, Queensland have always had a lot of allrounders, so they didn't need his bowling services. I believe he's been bowling a fair bit in grade cricket, and given they didn't pick a specialist spinner he was always going to get through a few.

Anyone know much about James Pattinson's batting? Batting ahead of Wright (a good bat) and Siddle (handy) but his record looks ordinary though admittedly as small sample size, so curious to find out what he's like.

He was the part of the recent Aussie U-19 worldcup winning squad and based on what I saw, the core of the future Aussie side would consist a lot of members of that U-19 squad and Beaton too would be in the mix.
