This sort of **** is why I ****ing hate the IPL and this whole 20/20 Champions League bs. If I wanted to watch soccer where players have no loyalties except to the $$$ and it was all always about qualifying for the next level of comp for more money, and (soon no doubt) country obligations be ****ed if it clashes with my payday, then I'd do so.

,"That's not Australian to me. Is that what New South Wales cricket is having to do? I am trying to understand the modern world."

This statement is a bit of a laugh considering 5 or 6 NSW players will ditch their side to go play for an Indian IPL side should they qualify.
It's a low thing to do by NSW for just the final, but if NSW loses all their top players...considering the big money on offer, it could be a smart move to keep McCullum on the side if they end up needing something extra.
Tbh, NSW is in a bit of a win-win situation, since now they have qualified for CL T20, they would get a hefty participation fee, and if few players of their' have to go and play for an IPL side, then that IPL side to would have to pay NSW a good amount of money to acquire the services of their player, and in case NSW goes into the tournament with their full strength side, then too they are the most likely to win the CL T20 and take the huge price money home, so NSW doesn't have much to worry about.

Surely McCullum now has to get a duck and/or drop a vital catch. There has to be some justice.

Firstly, I agree that it's low and blah blah blah. Shouldn't be happening.

But it'll be funny when the VIC's lose and blame this, when really, it's because their 3 batsman who can actually play are out.

un-australian? I have always had the impression that a aussie would do anything to win within the laws of the game..

Well no wonder Victoria's remained very quiet on this. They were already plotting something similar, except NSW's got the jump on them.

You can hardly blame NSW for working within the rules that are in place...that want a better chance to win the Champions League and they can't sign up any other Australian state player so they have to look abroad.

I hate this on so many levels. Firstly, as has been stated, the sheer ridiculousness of a player getting signed up just to play in a final really takes the whole point away from developing team spirit and progressing as a team throughout the season.

Secondly, I firmly believe that Australian state teams should try attempt to remain representatives of the state in its entirety to ensure they actually stand for something other than a market share. Players packing up their lives and moving across the country is fair enough but signing up non-residents really just seems wrong to me. I don't buy into the whole "it denies a young player an opportunity" crap but as someone who actually tries to follow state cricket seriously and cheer on my state team, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth.

And last, but certainly not least, I'm a NSW fan and I can't stand Brendan McCullum. I definitely won't be able to support him while he's out there which will detract from my ability to support my state.

The whole thing is just dire and I'm embarrassed to be a NSW cricket fan at the moment.
Yeah, how can you identify with and cheer for a team when some members have never even lived in the State? For mine, you have to be able to identify with, to be able to share something (however remote) in common with the team you go for. For me, I share being from Qld in common with the Qld boys. If McCallum played for Qld though, what would you share in common with him? To me, auctions/imports/franchises etc - it's so shallow and meaningless.

Oh right, much better.

Why didn't they bring him in for the match vs. Victoria earlier as well? NZ weren't playing WI then were they? If he played the season out, it would have received far less criticism.

Playing for Otago. He only got realised as NZ players weren't going to play in the finals anyway and that would mean he misses only one game for them.

Lol mountain out of a molehill in this thread.

Good on NSW. He's only being bought in for the Champs league, that's it. He's not replacing NSW wickie who still plays, but one of their Bats drafted in for Aussie limited overs.

It's Win/Win for absolutely everybody.

-It's a win for McCullum as he gets another shot at at the champs league should Otago/Kolkata not make it, and he gets a warm up in Aussie ahead of the ODIS.
-It's a win for NSW as they get another international quality bat for their side as backup for their players having to play for their IPL sides in the CL and not being available. Actually winning this final hardly matters at all.
-It's a win for IPL as it means NSW are more likely to field a stronger team rather thanh one that's going to get rolled due to missing their best talent.
- It's a win for Otago as they can give some gametime to Aaron Redmond in the upcoming semifinal, they already qualify for the final and Redmond will be playing in the final game due to McCullum being on international duty anyway.
- It's a win for Otago development as McCullum is donating his match fee to them.
-It's a win for average joe spectator of the Big Bash final as they get to watch an international quality 20/20 bat instead of some unknown second/third stringer

Meh, the only people who could feel aggrieved would be dyed-in-the-wool win or lose state supporters, and purist posers, but to the purists it's already just a 20/20 lark and I wouldn't mind if my local team had a good ring in if it increased their chances of winning games.
