***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2007/08

White Lightning

School Boy/Girl Cricketer
Simmons, Mail, Hughes, Cooper (bats at 3, but can open), Burke, Khawaja and Warner (again a number 3, but can open).

Plenty of opening options. even if four are rookies and one for some reason lost his contract.
Jarrad Burke wouldn't be a bad option.

Usman Khawaja - don't rate him at all. Scored a few runs here and there and started this season off ok...

Dave Warner - never seen him open the batting at all. doesn't have the temperemant. gun batsman though.

ooo yeah great to see Matty Inness getting amongst the wickets. i'm a big fan of his. unorthodox but you can't argue against his numbers. they're pretty impressive.

Also you can add Greame Rummans and Corey Richards to the list. Yeah there might not be any real stand out options. But enough options so you can play a specialist batsmen there, rather then a bits and pieces all rounder.

but if your going to go off grade cricket form than Lambert is easily your man and based on that form he is hardly a bit and pieces all rounder... for whatever reason he just hasn't put it together at state level.

Meh based on grade form Rummans is your man, leading run scorer in grade cricket. Also if you want a player that dominates grade cricket and probably be never be good enough to FC cricket they Craig Simmons is your man. Been a dominate player at grade and 2nd XI level his whole career, both in Sydney and Perth. Atleast I guess with Simmons his still young and can turn his career around.

As good as Lambert is in grade cricket there are other player as dominate are better options as specialist. I can kind of handle him making the side as all rounder, but as specialist batsmen, now that really going over the top.

does anyone know an easy way to find overall sheffield shield statistics for a players career.

was trying to find mike hussey's record for WA,which i know isn't that crash hot. but to find this page:

http://www-uk2.cricket.org/db/STATS/AUS/STATES/WA/FC_BAT_HIGHEST_AVS_WA.html

was rather excruiating and eventually had to be done through google. and i don't even know how up to date the page is.

surely there should be link to this through the records link on baggygreen.com.au but alas there is nothing of the sort....

Use www.cricketarchive.com and search for a player. Once you do this it's not to hard to find a detailed breakdown of his career, inlcuding his average for all FC teams that he has played for.

Yep, he must have been hell nervous, hope he makes a big score today.

Just looking at the Victorian game, Wade is currently 39*. He seems like he's started his first class career well. I've not actually seen him yet, what is he like?

Would he be in front of Hartley already for an Australian spot (behind Gilly, Haddin, Ronchi)?

The batting of Noffke and Bichel is not helping Hartley's chances as he's now batting at number 9. Probably a fair spot for him as his batting seems to have dropped alot recently.

Paine would be ahead of Wade for the Australian spot, I'd imagine - probably fourth in line (though Clingeleffer is playing today).

Great to see Marsh in the runs.

Warner isn't an opener - well, maybe at best in One Dayers, but definitely not in First Class cricket.

Wade's class. Very strong through the leg side, and very good off the back foot. A good gloveman, but probably more of a natural with regards to hand eye co-ordination, rather than a natural gloveman. Knows his batting game really well.

They're still using Crosthwaite in the one dayers. It'd be interesting to see whether Paine is in front of Clingeleffer (sp) in the queue for Test cricket.

Don't see Clingeleffer even being on the radar as ever playing test cricket. Can't imagine it will be long until Paine takes his spot in the Shield side - the kid is class.

Yeah, the move to WA may well be the best decision in Inness' career.
Should have played Test cricket. Looks like he's only just regained that extra yard of pace - lost it late in his time with Victoria. These sort of figures were what he manufactured a lot of the time when he was in his prime.

They obviously rate Clingeleffer's glovework ahead of Paine's though. Also, I think Tasmania are doing a good job of managing Paine's prosects. They're pushing him as a future Test batsman for Australia, as well as a future keeper for Australia.

Rather than getting stuck like Haddin has been, if there is aleady a settled Australia wicketeeper and Paine's batting numbers demand it, they know that Paine has played as solely a batsman a fair bit, so he doesn't have to be hidden in the field.
