The point in getting Elliott was to win more games. Elliott is a good batsman; Deitz's spot is the one under threat IMO, along with Bogras.
It throws up the perrenial question of what should be the charter of Pura Cup sides - to produce Australian players or to win the competition? Ideally, it's a balance. However, I do think the composition of South Australia's batting line-up puts a little too much emphasis on the latter.

But wouldn't Elliot's presence help the youngsters? He did play quite a few Tests for Australia and I'm sure his experience along with the likes of Boof and Blewett would help players like Cameron develop

What SHOULD be? Producing Australian players.
What IS? Winning the competition.

If producing Australian players were the real objective of these states, half the current players would be gone as they have no chance of playing for Australia at all. Murray Goodwin is a literal example, as was Flower when he played here, but there are others, like Deitz, Higgs, Cox, Phelps, Richards, Mail, Nicholson, Dawes, Noffke, Wise, Love, Maher, Elliott, Blewett etc who realistically have no chance of playing for Australia in the future that wouldnt be playing either. If the ACB was in change of selection for all the states, we would see much different sides.

Yeah, how many ex-Aussie batsmen do you need though. I thought Boof was meant to be the doyen of mentors - so he likes to tell everyone. :p Those three guys are likely to play for another three years, I just think one of those spots should perhaps go to a Plant or, when off the sausage rolls, Cosgrove.

Keeping them out of the side doesnt help them develop at all though...

As above, of course you need a balance. However, as stated, I just think SA - with Dietz, Lehmann, Elliot and Blewett - have gone a bit too far.

Even ignoring the concept of developing young players and making them ready for the next step up, Im convinced that Ben Cameron is twice the batsman than Deitz is or ever was.

Even with simply winning matches at the focus, Cameron or Plant - or both - should have been picked.

We want a Clarke 200!
He's already hit one in grade cricket on the weekend. :p

And he just got out to Rofe for 178. :(

I agree with playing Ben Cameron, he looked pretty classy... I thought the idea of a FC team was to have an even mix of experiance and young talent, SA have gone from one extreme to the other!

Well done to Katich in particular, my views on him have softened over the past month or so (I actually felt sorry for him when he was run out..), nicely timed young man.

There's a player called Ben Cameron!? That's my brother's name...

But good batting by Clarke and Katich. The fact that Clarke was dropped 3 (?) times kind of cheapens it a bit for me, but it's still good to see him getting a big score

Yes, there certainly is a player called Ben Cameron, and I rate him extremely highly.

I went out to watch a bit this morning and Clarke looked in really good touch. Everything he hit was right off the middle and looked like whatever he did there was no chance he would get out.

Also, I'd like to yet again praise my man Katich. Not only did he score a century, he was good enough to give me and some mates his autograph and even a photo with him only ten minutes after being dismissed. How can you not like this guy :) ?

Nice match for Lee so far, and Katich makes more runs. 3 wickets in 8 overs before stumps means that SA will almost certainly lose tomorrow.

No luck on the rain I'm afraid. Warm and blue skies today. SA did okay until Bracken came on and got 3 quick wickets, so it's just a matter of time now. Two more wickets for NSW to win.
