*Official* Australia vs South Africa -2022/3

I wouldn't pick either but between the two Meredith can take a wicket outside of Perth. Honestly the bigging up of Morris is just teeny bopper fan girling. Have some self respect. Btw a quick googling of their ERs on cricinfo might make for informative reading before shooting your gob off about control. And you might rate Morris higher but he's not twice as good ffs.

I've just read Australia can lock in the WTC with a whitewash. The game's not dead so no excuse not fielding our best team.
Meredith home decks are some of the greenest in the shield, and a good chunk of Morris's FC games have come on the absolute cement highways at Karen rolton oval, it's not just Perth decks that accounts for the difference in there stats. Meredith is a good bowler and has looked gun in red all cricket this year, but he averages over 33 in FC cricket while Morris averages 25. Morris is the best strike bowler in the shield over the past 2 years, only guys who compare are stekekke and neser.

Playing Agar in a 4-man attack would be dumb as hell. I actually could in fairness see the logic of picking him in a 4-man attack in India as he does offer something different from Lyon and could be effective on a turner, but the SCG has been a mega road for a long time regardless of how the wicket looks. Going a 4 man attack with someone who isn't very effective with the ball in Australian conditions is extremely risky no matter how **** the South Africa batting is.

And the WTC isn't locked up. Every chance India blows us out of the water.

Of course, this might not be the actual lineup.

I'd sooner see Chadd Sayers with two caps or Hitler with a national monument than see Riley Meredith play test cricket.

Yeah I'd have replaced Green with Hardie and Starc with Haze. This is all too clever by half. I doubt it'd be happening if the game was live.
Hardie's an interesting one, on the one hand he's clearly got a heap of talent, but equally he hasn't had a great year and his track record is still a bit small. I don't think he's the ideal option to replace Green yet.

I probably would've gone another bat if the pitch was a spicy one, but if it was a road I'd have gone a bowling all-rounder.

The ideal option (and I think they honestly would've considered this if he was fit) would've been Maxwell. But alas....

I refuse to pay cricketarchive so would've checked their ground records but I think it would show a career advantage for Meredith before this year. Maybe, it's close. Don't know for sure. I did a quick check of WA's shield records this year in cricinfo. Morris is in the test squad because of his 3 matches in Perth. Which means his record leading up to this year is good for a young bowler but middling overall.

This year he's taken 21 wickets at home and 6 away in 2 games. Tellingly conceded a lot at Melbourne and wasn't played at Sydney. It's interesting the way WA play him. If they don't want to play him in Sydney why the clamour for the test team to do it now? He's come in 1st or 2nd change too. It suggests they're nursing a young talent. All of which is good management but everyone of those reasons tells me he shouldn't be rushed into the test team either.

I wouldn't pick either but the talk of spelling either Haze or Boland for Morris was just mad.

Morris's FC stats:

It does show that's there's some truth to him being a home ground bully but equally the sample size isn't great and the Junction and KRO are usually mega roads so not sure that proves that much.

Meredith:

More even (and did well on the Junction), but that home record is a bit not great when you consider that Bellerive is usually quite green. And the WACA.....isn't.

I for one think Ashton brings a lot to the table and one of the biggest Sri Lankans ever to play the game

Can't wait for us rock up with a batting line up of
1.Warner
2.Usman
3Marnus
4.renshaw
5.Head
6.Carey
7.Agar

Not SA levels of bad, but still pretty dire.

Where are people seeing that Smith is out? The last I saw was that it was a concern but that he would be right to play, and I don't see reports otherwise this evening.
