agar in the subcontinent is the perfect example of my “if you’re taking a second spinner who’s that bad you might as well just play your third pacer” thing i don’t shut up aboutI get the variation argument for picking a left arm spinner to complement Lyon in the subcontinent. But surely quality >>>> variation as far as things to consider go and if we're going to go "but he's different and he has national team experience" as justifications then I would honestly rather pick Zampa.
I'd also pick a whole bunch of blokes first mind.
Yeah I'd have replaced Green with Hardie and Starc with Haze. This is all too clever by half. I doubt it'd be happening if the game was live.A four man attack with Agar in it is an absolutely horrible idea. I probably wouldn't pick him at all personally, but if he has to play five bowlers seems about the only way to not leave the attack worryingly thin
Wouldn't play Morris either myself. Haze obviously returns. Also Boland doesn't need a rest, if anything his domestic reputation was very much as a workhorse who could chug away with long economical spells. Doesn't strike me as the guy who needs (or wants, for that matter) to be workload managed at all
Would probably just end picking Renshaw if I was the selectors right now. Can't say I am super enthused about that but he is a better bet than Agar at least
Why? Morris is faster and more accurate. Meredith has barely improved his control since he emerged hence why he keeps being dropped from the Shield team after going at five an over.I'd prefer Meredith anyway if you want a pace option.
Yeah I totally get not really rating Morris, but rating Meredith higher seems odd. Why? Morris is faster and more accurate. Meredith has barely improved his control since he emerged hence why he keeps being dropped from the Shield team after going at five an over.
Meredith isn't half the red ball bowler Morris is.Playing Agar as one of four bowlers is the worst outcome - how do they do it? The only relief is the Saffer batting is so bad. The obvious area that needs attending in the near future is the batting. Why wouldn't you just play Renshaw and have his darts and Travis' part timers support Cummins, Haze, Boland and Lyon? How ****ing difficult is that? Send Agar back to wherever he can prepare for India as I don't think a test match is a place to be trialing him. Morris too because I don't like him part of a 4 man attack and I'd prefer Meredith anyway if you want a pace option.
Yeah. Honestly in that situation you look for a competent FC bat who bowls good 5th bowler offspin. They'll be a decent support and discourage meme decks.agar in the subcontinent is the perfect example of my “if you’re taking a second spinner who’s that bad you might as well just play your third pacer” thing i don’t shut up about
You'd think, but such logic doesn't always seem to exist where you think it should. Agar's debut pretty much only came about due to the 'KP is weak against left-arm spin' meme, as did Doherty's before (when Hauritz has been perfectly serviceable). But then again we have the disgraceful thing where he could just bump Rocchiccioli - who is proving a far better spinner so far - out of his spot just to bolster his test chances.I get the variation argument for picking a left arm spinner to complement Lyon in the subcontinent. Hold up what did I do?I wouldn't pick either but between the two Meredith can take a wicket outside of Perth. Honestly the bigging up of Morris is just teeny bopper fan girling. Have some self respect. Btw a quick googling of their ERs on cricinfo might make for informative reading before shooting your gob off about control. And you might rate Morris higher but he's not twice as good ffs.
I've just read Australia can lock in the WTC with a whitewash. The game's not dead so no excuse not fielding our best team.
Ashton will play at 7 as a part of a five man attackYou'd think, but such logic doesn't always seem to exist where you think it should. I also can't fathom what they could possibly have seen in the SCG pitch (and how it's played recently) to be worried about the batting when it was apparently alright at Brisbane on a pitch that was indiscernible from the outfield. Unless they rate Green that much higher than Agar with the bat - which further diminishes the case for Agar playing.
Breaking Bad would not have existed thenBald men shouldn't be on tv
