Maybe. Haze is consistently quicker than Boland who provides a point of difference with seam. WA are still protecting Morris. The coach has said he'd be played in short bursts. Whereas you know you've got the overs in Cummins, Haze (if fit), Boland and Lyon. If you pick Morris you're firming Agar's position too.

I'd have picked Hardie. I think it's more important to trial him than Morris. But if he's not there then I'd prioritise Renshaw instead. You'd learn more how he goes against their bowling than Morris against their batting. Given Warner's and Usman's ages, re establishing Renshaw should be higher priority for the test team. Whereas I'm guessing Morris has done his best work on the Perth drag strip. Let him at least get Handscomb out in Melbourne first.

So is the consensus here that J Hazelwood will take the new ball for the Sydney test?
Yes. Morris is 1st change. Boland sits out, haze preferred for scg and First picked if fit. Boland only effective on green tops. Out of all the tests Boland played, only 1 road the MCG, where he only got 3 wickets.

Lineup as follows

Warner
Khawaja
Labu
Smith
Head
Carey
Agar(replaces Green)
Cummins
Morris( replaces starc)
Lyon
Hazlewood( replaces Boland)

Boland needs to become regular so that Australia can fill it's one Victorian quota and keep Harris out for good.

Heh, just looking back at the OP. Quality job by Fox Sports as usual.

Look out, Aussies: South Africa names powerful squad for first Tests since Sandpaper-gate

Hardie looks creepy as **** and should not be anywhere in public let alone on a a free to view tv screen.

Looks like Cummins is saying both Agar and Renshaw will play and Morris won't. Allegedly the worry is about how the pitch will play, even though we always score 500 on it no matter what it looks like.

Absolutely ridiculous if true. They've had Morris as a net bowler when he could have been playing BBL or even grade, and they want to play effectively 3 1/2 bowlers (because Agar is that bad) on a probably flat pitch.

A dead rubber is the perfect place to debut Morris, whereas Agar shouldn't be in an FC team. Since they only want to play Morris on lively pitches it seems (even though pace is an advantage on slower decks) we can kiss goodbye to a debut anytime soon.
