Get a couple of early boundaries and settle in I think. It was a pretty innocuous ball bowled by tim southee so he might have seen the opportunity to be 16 not out at the stumps

It's the manner of dismissals that concerns me more than anything else really. His entire game was built around impeccable judgement of off stump but these last few games he's nicked off to balls he wouldn't dream of playing at his best

As much as I loath bazball, one of, if not its only, great trait is that it put the bowlers outside the comfort zone. When shits keep defending and you know they aren't going to hurt you, you can keep hammering away in the corridor without changing any tactics. Probably why his 9 of 80 or something at the Oval was so atrocious

Anyway, salvaging a result from this would be the definition of paper over the cracks. Non-Australian fans must be spewing (as well as laughing) every time they watch this **** given how hard this team has been to kill at home for everyone else over the past decade. Especially the Indian fans.

Looks like we're away to Afghanistan and then Sri Lanka next before India. The team as it is will get steamrolled in India (like most teams tbf) and be middling in Sri Lanka, so I think we need to make our firings now.

Alternatively, a 6 test run through Asia looks like a Tommy Latham career saver. To give him some credit, he has been a better than solid opener for NZ on subcontinent tours. Will Young acquitted himself well in India as well, though I doubt he will play if everyone is available.

For me the issue is that Marnus is not just having a form slump, but that this is his mean and he's just not that good. His ~3 years of dominance was based on a combination of a bizarre Voges-like run of form, roady home wickets and absurd luck. Before 2019 he was never particularly good either. Didn't even average 40 in fc cricket IIRC.

So rather than him picking back up and returning to being a 50+ average batsman I expect it to just stay like this. Because this is him, not the run-making machine he was for a few years

Absolutely correct regarding Indian fans @Flem274* part . I am absolutely annoyed by the fact that how easily you guys surrender against AUS . You have such a good Team . Put up a fight .
I daresay even Afghanistan will put up a better fight against Aus on spin friendly wickets than you guys do at home .

We played 3 last time and more than **** the bed each game and haven't beaten them in something aside t20's in years

The record since Eden Park 2015 across all formats is very clear and a statistically significant difference from what you would expect in the context of both sides.

Also, we don't have the same opportunities India and England get. India took multiple 4 zip hidings in Aus 2 years apart to finally get it. If we go 4 zip in 2027, that's it for the next 50 years.

New Zealand has to make their games count. We do not have the luxury to fail time and again like the big 3 or even 'legacy acts' like the West Indies.

Complete horse manure from NZ today, but TBF they should have done better yesterday bowling first, Aus have shown them up in conditions they know extremely well. Also, time to admit that spin is real? Opposition spinners are having quite the impact and Santner is generally bowling well.

This has very Cullinan vs Warne feels played out over a team scale, but hey at least where Daryll got the axe NZ have some precious opportunities to set things right.
