You can tell nothing about bowler management from a scorecard.

As a team, they seem to be going alright at the moment. Ganga's maiden test ton.

Except when the batting side score just under 500, the main strike bowlers take one wicket for about 100 runs at a run rate of 5+ an over and all the bowlers are given what looks like a set number of overs (about 23) weather or not they are being smashed everywhere...

Nope, don't eat pie.

Hmmmm...good bowler management?

Dillon: 23-1-116-1
Collins: 23-1-96-1
Lawson: 21-0-111-2
Drakes: 26.1-5-93-5
Samuels: 21-6-49-0
Ganga: 1-0-1-0

Somehow I think not. It looks like he's given each bowler about 20 overs regardless of weather they are getting smashed around or not.
Totally disagree with you there....he has got a bowling attack that is okay, but horribly samey..The pitch is as dead as I have ever seen and the boundaries are tiny for a test match..Plus they are up against Ponting Langer etc etc...

Dont blame poor bowler management, blame the fact they were all out for 237 or whatever in the first innings.. They should have made 400+, then the aussies would have been under pressure

And I suppose that's not his fault?

Eyes not spreadsheets
If you're playing with 4 front line bowlers, and they're all pace bowlers, then they need to share the workload around.

One batsman, however good he is, cannot be responsible for a whole teams demise to 56-5
But if that batsman happens to be the captain...then yes...he does. Remember the captain allways is to blame...;)

The only certainty here is that Rik never saw much of the game yesterday .

Lara's captaincy was certainly impressive, his field settings were proactive by and large - there was certainly no evidence of his old fault of 'letting the game drift' - and today his captaincy went a long, long way towards helping Ganga to a ton.

Lara even impressed the hell out of Mikey (Holding).

Credit where credit's due, I say

I'll give him credit if he wins the Test, which is still doubtful.

This sets up a possiblity of a really good match. What a ton by Lara, this man is a legend, and Ganga certainly impressed me, after I bagged him heaps while talking to all my friends.

Good stuff Windies, cmon make the aussies fight for a win for once.

Yeh Ganga looked good.... I think I bat very similar to him, with technique and footwork, although I am taller, and probably not as good

What happened to Lara ?... I read that someone was claiming a catch and next thing he knows is that he had clipped the bails off, with his own bat.Sounds quite bizarre.

Good fightback from the Windies...hopefully they don't fold up tomorrow morning and give the Aussies atleast in excess of 250 to chase.

Lara got it into his head that his weapon against Hogg would be the sweep - and truth be told he had played the shot well earlier.

This time, he missed the ball which struck him on the arm and looped to leg slip (I think there were the usual cries of 'catch it' from bowler and a couple of fielders).

As Lara was completing the shot, he 'lost' the bat with one hand. The bat descended 'clonk' on to the leg bail - this got Churchy and a couple of others appealing/celebrating - Lara saw this and walked immediately.

Nasser must be a really lame captain....7 losses....2 wins v Australia in the last couple of Ashes.....

Yep. The only good captains are the ones who win every game.

Would anyone else be offended if I said that Rik is talking crap?

Yep...quite an unfortunate dismissal. He played 5 sweeps for boundaries behind square before that.

Okay , West Indies lose the first match.....now onto the second, I say Sarwan and Gayle both back, Sarwan in for Samuels who looks out of touch, however Gayle I don't know who he will replace as yet. Also, the westindies certainly need to get a spinner in......maybe Ramnarine.....but then again who will he replace.... I would go for Collins

Sarwan for Samuels
Gayle for Hinds
Baugh for Jacobs (depending on fitness)

Ramnarine is out of form. I would go for either Omari Banks or Dave Mohammed. Both can bat rather well but Mohammed is the more penetrative spinner. He'll add variety as he is a left-arm chinaman bowler.
