We've heard all about how McGrath is a new man & that he'll control his aggression but today must have really tested him..did he pass?

As good as bowler as he is, he is always vulnerable if you can keep him out.

Apparentally, according to the radio anyway, the Sarwan incident has something to do with comments about his wife but I dont know how much truth there is in that - probably none because I doubt that people would say that given what has happened.

Thats just crap being made up by the media..alot was made about what the Australians said to Chris Cairns about the death of his sister a couple of years back but I seriously doubt there is an international cricket player currently who would sink that low & risk their career by making awful comments.

When WI were in Sri Lanka a couple of years back, the Sri Lankans were really giving Sarwan alot of mouth, seemingly to intimidate him. At that time, he did respond, but mostly because Lara acted as to shield him from the 'slagging'. In the Test in Trinidad, there was a similar incident between the Aussies and Sarwan, but it didn't really elevate. Perhaps it's a continuation of the tension which has been seen between the two teams (on the field) throughout the series.

It was suggested that they may be fined, but McGrath will get the heavier fine due to his gestures (ie wagging his finger at Sarwan and in conference with Shep). I think it was Mark Waugh and David Hookes who were suggesting this.

Yes. I agree in part. I think he's a bit like Pollock in this way. Both are predominantly lower 80's (mph) bowlers who get in close to the stumps and bowl on the spot day in, day out. But if you make up your mind to leave alone that line (just outside off) you generally will not get out.

I don't think that he's actually vulnerable though, because regardless, he will bowl a tight line over by over. He's a machine. The coach's analysis reveal that the way to get to him is to throw him off his game plan, by making him change his length (batting outside the crease) and attacking him to make him think about his bowling.

He showed that he has a very good inswinging yorker today. He removed Ganga with it.

i think hourn was talking more along the lines of how 'vunerable' McGrath was to showing aggression if you frustrate him.

Chandpaul gone off the the first ball of the fourth over - caught behind off Lee (4 wickets now) chasing a ball that was just a fraction wide of his body with only 1 run added.

2 runs added off Drakes second ball.

Match has taken a big turn.

44 runs and 3 wickets to go.

Uh-oh, "No-Ball" has got Chanderpaul......can only see one outcome now :(. Brilliant fighting spirit shown to make a go of it by the W.I.

what a test!!!

Well done to the Windies. Those soughts of chases are inspirational and what will give them the respect that they crave. Sarwan and Chanderpaul played 2 of the best innings you could hope to see.

From an Aussie point of view, dissapointing to lose defending such a big total, and once again we fall short in a test that had no bearing on the series results. I am very disapointed at losing and I hope its not washed off as "oo well, we had the series won anyway" because that type of attitude shouldn't be taken.

Once again though, we have been found out when we go more than 60 minutes without taking a wicket. Teams must surely have worked out how to beat this team - you place unlimited value on your wicket. Even if your not getting runs, the Aussies HATE not getting wickets, and if they have to wait more than an hour they really start to crack the ****s. You keep them out for 2 hours and they really get ****ed. Get a back-to-back partnership and you could notch up a huge score against them.

Well done to Omari Banks - his bowling has been pretty rank during the series, but his batting has been very good for a low-mid order player, and his ability to handle that pressure for 20 years old is incredible.

Rating this test match out of 10 - you couldn't find it hard not to give it a 10. It had everything. Encounters, top hundreds, a 7-for, a world record chase.

I'm racking my brain to see if I can remember a better test match than this last one.

I suppose the India follow-on victory of a couple of years ago - at a pinch.

It's quite unusual for the last innings to be the highest of the match - it's even more strange when you think that it eventually boiled down to a single innings event (the first innings being tied on 240).

When you think about it' though, it was the only game of the series to be played on a 'proper' wicket - the first three tests were played on 'feather beds' where the ball never came on. Perhaps it just took the batters a knock to get used to this track.

Couple of thoughts....

Omari Banks - one heck of a find. I look forward to his future.
Glenn McGrath - one heck of a whinger. I look forward to his retirement.

Yea the second and third test of that series would have to be, and before that, the second and third test of the last Windies-Aus series in the Windies.

I was much more impressed by his batting and his nerve than his bowling. He may turn into a number 6 or 7 bat, and off spining option, but I dont think he's going to cause too many headaches for the opposition batsmen.

The basic off-spinner technique is there ok and he does spin the ball, but defence of his analysis some of the catching (especially in the third test) was enough to make a village cricketer embarrassed.

A 20 year old off-spinner in England would be lucky to get a few outings in a county 2nd XI, yet when Banks came over here in 2000 (I think), he got a few games for Leicestershire 2nds at 17.

I think he was the third-highest wicket taker in West Indian domestic first-class cricket this year, so I wouldn't write him off as a main line bowler just yet.

What a fantastic match !!! Right up there with the best. Congradulations to the brave Windies led by the Masterclass of Brian Charles Lara. They have to be complimented on their positive approach which finally rattled the Aussies.

Incredible victory !! A record breaking 4th innings score to win, and that too against Aus is something special inded. This whole WI team deserves a pat in the back for pulling this off.Hopefully this young team would serve WI well in the coming years.

Yeah im impressed by Banks, looks like a gutsy player who works well with his limitations, I think WI need more like him...

Impressed by Ganga, love his technique (Carbon copy of moi...) great to see him scoring runs against the worlds best attack...

Drakes has been succesful by just putting the ball on the spot.. You dont need to be fast to succeed.

Although.. WI have still lost a home series 3-1, not too much to celebrate...

Chanderpaul and Lara are world class, although we already knew that...

I think Banks can be the next Hooper. He looks to be quite calm at the crease with a good technique and is a useful off-spinner. People must not forget that he is also a very good fielder.

Ganga seems to have a serious technical flaw against the yorker but I hope they don't sack him, despite his inconistency since the second Test.

Chanderpaul's was a magnificient know, especially because he has an injured finger and had it in a splint whilst he was at the crease.

Sarwan is a wonderful player with an exciting future. He has to beware of that hook-shot though.

Lara is a fairly decent player who may just have a future in cricket ;) :D.

Drakes has been a saviour for the Windies. Last year, on losing our tth wicket, we would have been long out of the match, but he has strengthened the lower order greatky and has been by far the best bowler IMO, in the first 3 Tests.

Dillon looks to be finding some form again. :)

Overall, outstanding effort by the Windies. Top job and congratulations all round. Well played by Australia as well, in a fascinating series finale. I still can't believe the result :)....

Great effort by the Windies, great batting from Sarwan and Chaderpaul especially.

this is one of the reasons that i think that mcagill should not be in the test team, he bowls absolute crap sometimes, in his stats however this is evened out by he better performances, but in no way is he consistant enough to play test cricket for Australia
