Pontings avrage is now over 50 for the first time after his 17th test 100 wether he gets out first thing tomorow or not.

Now he just needs to make a 200 I think its about time he does.
I won't be surprised if he averages over 55 in tests and over 44 in odi's. He just looks too good. He now has Bangladesh where he can push it up to 52 with not out centuries.

well at least the WI team have more than 1 good batsman, unlike a certain team that toured Australia a few months ago.....
Well ha ha, but the English Top Order is more than a match for the West Indies.

Also, this one good batsman, I'm presuming you're ignoring Nasser and Butch, who both made a fair number of runs in the series (Nasser got more than Gilchrist and Martyn, and both got more than Steve Waugh)

There is also the added fact that your lot didn't have to face the great Australian attack (which lost a few teeth when only half there)

I can, he's never been a settled member of the side (longest unbroken run is 3 games), and he's only played 9 matches (this is is tenth)

Mind you, when you consider 5 of those have been at home to England (in which games he averages 20.85), I can see your point.

Yep for sure.

He will go on to make more test & ODI runs than any other Australian by the time he retires you would think.

While I agree That currently with the absence of Gayle & Chanderpual Englands top order compairs well with the WI one but its a bit of a statistical lie to suggest that Nasser batted better than Martyn & Gilchrist just based on the runs he made. We all know Gilly & Marto had half the chances that Nasser & Buther had and they both avraged better.

The question again.......... WHY NO SPECIALIST SPINNER ?????? and why is Pedro Collins in when Tino Best is made to wait ?????? The WIs selectors have pulled off an absolute shocker this time !

Sorry just got carried away there, its just so annoying.

10 versus 8 is hardly half.

And the pressure that Gilly and Marto faced was miniscule compared to the load on Hussain's shoulders.

Tino Best isn't ready yet- he should wait. If anyone should be in the team instead of Collins, it's Collymore. He's been really impressive lately.

Mohammed should be in as a spinner.

What happened to Reon King?

I've said this over and over and over again, but I'll shall again repeat- King got injured in England, he was out for a year and since then his action has been changed and he hasn't been half the bowler he was. He also got injured this year after a fairly decent effort early in the Carib Cup tourney.

Man, it seems the batting is having a fun time! :wow: I always saw the Windies as producing more bowler friendly pitches :P

plfft lara and sarwan could take the english top order by themselves, add to that ganga, chanderpaul, hinds and gayle and well Vauhan, trescothink, hussain, butcher etc couldn't win any contest against them, except maybe scoring the slowest :D:D:D

Lets see if I combine both top sixes this is the best 6 IMO.

Gayle
Trescothick
Vaughan (Vaughan can bat in the middle order)
Lara
Sarwan
Chanderpual

I would think a fully fit WI batting line up would be supirior but England deffinatly have better bowlers.

Eclipse, Vaughan has got to number 1 in the world by opening the batting - there is absolutely no reason to suddenly drop him down the order to accomodate Chris Gayle.

And methinks you're overlooking Thorpe, and to a lesser extent Butcher and Hussain.

I just think Vaughan is more flexible than Gayle thats all but you know more about Vaughan than me.

I suppose If Thorpe were to succsesfully make a comback you could argue his case against Gayle in the short term but IMO Gayle will eventualy be the better batsman.

I would easily pick Lara, Chanders and Sarwan over Butcher and Hussain.
