No, its not. His farewell series against England was poor. It was a " time to blood some young blokes" decision which has not worked.
of course it hasn't worked. Many talented young batsmen fail in their first series. but a guy who doesn't even have a FC 100? Nah, that doesn't add up on any level.

TBF we live in a world where warner debuted internationally without a FC game to his name. Sometimes the selectors like to take a punt based on what they saw.

Hardly surprising though. I'm assuming that internationally they're giving us their best pitches, and the pitches served up in the England and Australia series have been absolute **** tips. **** knows what they're batting on in domestic cricket, no wonder their young batsmen are ****ing clueless.

it's weird because when nz went over there we all expected exactly what england and australia got but two of the three pitches were good and one in particular i thought was quite a fun pitch.

serving up dung heaps in the hope of evening the playing field against the big three maybe?

Australia just have this scary production line of bowlers and now it's an absolute embarrassment of riches. If NZ had 2 bowlers of the calibre of Cummins and Pattinson sidelined - and I guess that would equate to Boult and Southee - then we'd be absolutely f*cked, yet Australia are having to decide who must sit out the first Ashes test from a group of bowlers any which of who would stroll into any other international team.
Then there's players like Jackson Bird who would also make virtually any other international team but probably won't get back now because of the quality of players Australia have to choose from.

I remember one test series where we got towled up in Brisbane and the quote from Stephen Fleming was that "it was like facing 3 Richard Hadlees". The bowlers were McGrath, Gillespie and Kasprowicz. Kasprowicz....I probably would have forgotten about him except for the Fleming quote. And he was keeping Brett Lee out of the Aus side at that stage.
And then on our last tour, it was Starc, Pattinson, Cutting vying for 2 spots in a new-look attack. Starc and Pattinson got given the chance and kicked on, and I guess Cutting has now faded away(?) but I guess would be playing test cricket if born in another country(?)
Aussies just have unbelievable depth, always.

Would be nice if that extended to our batting.
Steve Smith has gone from being a practitioner of some of the worst ungainly agricultural hoicks ever seen in cricket at any level, to an absolute technician and future all-time great...currently the worlds number 1 ranked test batsmen.
Don't you Aussies think that the almighty has granted you enough miracles? #neverhappy

I mean that's nice, but his 199 only translated to a total team score of 399. :P

Nah I actually think our batting is decentish to good now, great depending on conditions. Took awhile to get there though.

In some ways it's an inverse of the situation 10 years ago. Back then our batting depth was ridiculous but our bowling depth was rather shallow.

In fairness I can't think of anyone who does have strong batting depth.
