langer got free from any punishment

Reason 1-> he is not from subcontinent

Reason 2-> he has lost his hands power to sense any thing

Does it have to be referred to the umpires? Maybe (if it was all a plan) that it wouldn't go to the third umpire. Backfired if it was. :D

I find the whole thing very very strange. No way on Earth that you could knock them off without feeling it.

Also, as I haven't seen it, what the hell was he doing that near the stumps? If I'm going to square leg to square leg, I don't go within arms length of the stumps, you go round them. Did it 'look' strange? Un-biased opinions only please. ;)

Australians are the undisputed "prima donnas" of cricket as such regretfully they get let off the hook most always or get a considerbly lighter punishment than the rest ..... Example from the past:-

Slater apologises to Dravid
3 March 2001

Australian opening batsman Michael Slater has apologised to
Rahul Dravid for using abusive language against the Indian
vice-captain during the first cricket Test between the two
countries here on Thursday.

Australian media manager Brian Murgatroyd was quoted by
Aussie journalists covering the tour as having stated that
Slater and Dravid sat down together over beer after the game.
In fact, Dravid had gone to the Australian dressing room at the
end of the match.

Slater's tantrum began after his appeal for a catch against
Dravid was turned down by the third umpire. In what Peter
Roebuck described as "Slater's moment of madness", the
Aussie walked up to umpire S Venkatraghavan and argued
the decision with him and then turned to Dravid, who stood his
ground, as he had a right to, and exchanged hot words with
him

ICC match referee Cammie Smith of West Indies let him off
after a warning. The Australian correspondents said their
players, after seeing the replay believed the third umpire made
the right decision. Australian captain Steve Waugh conceded
that Slater's behaviour was wrong but he put the responsibility
for that on the technology that is used to capture action on
the field.

The Australian reporters also pointed out that their batsmen
had stood their ground in similar circumstances this year and
the verdicts had gone in their favour. Pointing out that the
visitors cannot have it both ways, Roebuck said Slater may
have taken the catch "but his protestations were out of place".

It all seems like a bit of a storm in a racial tea cup.....

Moving on, why did Australia send Gillespie in to do Nightwachman duty??? I thought they gave up using them!

Waugh gave up using them.

Are we going to have some more pathetic insecure whining about racism in the ICC?

coming back to the issue, there was talk of the icc splitting up into subcontinent(+zim+sa) and rest, so your assessment of no racial differences in icc is BS. and todays decision only glorifies these differences.

i hate these f**king politics:!(

It does seems strange in a way that Langer got off completely. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't feel the bail being knocked off (which is the only possible way he could be innocent), but it would have taken some big balls for the ICC to find him guilty, 'cause it's such a severe charge it could have been a career-ender for Langer. And we know the ICC doesn't have a habit of possessing any balls... Uh, except when they're punishing cricket boards for having humanitarian principles, that is.

Back to the game - and ironically (or not), Langer's cooking along, but the Aussie record in dead rubbers doesn't look like improving too much, at 130 ahead with 5 wickets in hand. Murali's been cleaning up that tail in quicktime with great regularity in the series so far, once he gets sight of it. Maybe Gilly can pull something out of the hat though.

Anyhow, it seems about time Martyn was dumped. 8D

I don't really understand all the criticism of this. Yes, Waugh decided to dispense with night-watchmen, but they were a perfectly acceptable staple of the game for decades. People make insinuations of cowardice around it, but in fading light, with nothing much to gain, I always thought they made a fair degree of sense, really.

Langer has completed a century and the Aussies are 5/192.

How the hell Langer didn't know that he took off the bail must of because of the heat. It made him go crazy and start hitting cricket balls.

Maybe he should hit his hand on the stumps more often - he may just have saved his career with this century.

At 260/5, it looks like the game is slipping away from the Sri Lankans yet again... Remarkable how each test has followed such a distinct pattern in it's middle stages. As well as the bizarre fact that Australia's surrendered a first innings lead in every match.

I wonder if anyone can tell us what is the record for number of tests won by a side surrendering a first innings lead?
I agree, this series has been bizarre in some ways.

i hope katich has finally answered his critics and will now be a permanent feature in this aussie side. im surprised that it took them so long to give him a chance despite his good showing against india

Good on ya Katich, I was wanting Sri Lanka to win this match but I am very pleased to see Katich playing a good knock.

Or, maybe, shock horror, because he didn't do anything wrong?

Matthew Elliot had a rather good year domestically.
But would that not be a backward step?

I don't see how dropping Langer for Elliott would have been the correct decision.
