how much of a role will the pitch play in this (i havent been watching, just following on the net)...by all accounts the pitch is getting slower and slower...are we talking so slow that really it is going to be easy for Sri Lanka to play out a draw....or its there any inconsistant bounce going on?????

and what is the news on Jayasuriya's hand..will he be able to bat tomorrow
Like you, I have only been following on the net as well, but as far as I know, the pitch is getting worse to play on. Jayasuria's hand will not allow him to open, but I am sure he will come back in tomorrow at some stage if the Sri Lankan's are in trouble.

Excellent day's play by australia .... but I am disapointed in Ponting's ultra safe play. On a turning wicket he should have declaired with a lead of maybe 300 and had a few SL wickets in the bag by now .... I think it may just cost them the win.

I hope Katich played in the next test instead of Symonds.

hehe your not the only one, though i reakon Katich would have made more runs than martyn had he played - and possibly picked up wickets
 Seems to me he can't do anything right.

A Superb battling ton and this is what he gets.

Pontings first responsibilty was to ensure Australia didnt lose the match...300 in say a day and an hour or so wouldnt have shut the game away from SL.

Your argument makes sense on most scenario's, but Gall is a "diffrent kettle of fish" .... The wicket is breaking up and the highest 2nd innings score on that wicket is 269. If you consider these factors in addition to haveing the Worlds greatest Legspinner in your side it's clear that Ponting may have missed the mark. SL might just pull off a draw and do an "England" as in last december.

i am sure Ponting is confident enough to think that his bowling weaspons are potent enough to dismiss SL in one day and 3 overs....if he is confident in getting them out in a day and 14 overs (chasing less runs)......

I would have liked to have seen Ponting declare maybe 2 overs earlier...but no earlier than that

Excellent Play by the aussies.

At one step it seemed that they were going down by an innings defeat but now i must say that they have a excellent chance of winning.

yes it is good that ricky kept the magical target of 350 but in the process thay have given ' murali ' a lot of wickets :!(

No way in the world would you want to lose your first test match as captain.
And the 'world's greatest leg spinner' hasn't played a test match for over 12 months - he has done well to make it back, let alone be relied upon to win the match for his country!

I would have liked to see him declare around the 330 lead mark, but I trust he knows what he is doing.

i dunno why your so worried:duh:.........warne now has the opportunity to bowl well and get a couple of wickets to get him to the 500 wicket mark!

i am obviously hoping otherwise:)

Rest assured i am not worried

yes i too hope that warne should get some wickets and the srilankan plan of praparing a spinning pitch should back fire on the home team

Must you always be so pedantic?
It is patently clear that the post was pointing out that the Australian batsman were clearly going for quick runs at the end, thus 'giving' Murali some cheap wickets!!
Jesus, give it a rest why don't you?

If Sri Lanka lose, their batsmen should shoot themselves. Well done Martyn, although this 100 saved himself IMO.

499 ... one to go :D

This really is brilliant bowling from Warne , showing us all exactly what the Australian attack has been missing over the last 12 months , really using conditions to his advantage.

5/56 as I speak....looks like being over well before tea now :D
