Shane Watson has had one hell of a stinker today, I really rate the kid but his fielding, his batting and now bowling has been frankly awful.
yea though game back, but intially i though he was batting well when he came in, just played a bad shot.

The strength of the England bowling 'machine' when it was well oiled in 2005 was that there were four completely different components - that's the point that Marc appeared to be making. The only person Lee could have come in for on a 'like for like' basis would have been Steve Harmison.
fair enough on this point, but what i'm saying is if Lee where actually english & had been around with Harmison, Jones, Hoggard, Flintoff were developing with his pace i'm sure Fletcher would not have thrown aside the oppurtunity of having 4 really quick bowlers in his side.

on cricketaustralia.com, i just listened to Tait interview & he said himself that he still cant throw properly and if he cant improve on that between now and when the test starts he doesn't feel he should be included in the test side.

Thats seems fair to me..

Who would gadly had him before that but with the current attack he couldn't have just walked into the side he would be fighting hard for his place.

What an innings by Smith, great to see him back on top form,DeVilliers played class aswell.

I feel really sorry for Watson,he looks totaly out of his depth bowling wise.

i remember against Sehwag in the super test when he bowled as well as he can but Sehwag just dispatched hi for 4 all the time like he was playing against a small child. The way he was treated in the 2020 and this ODI,i think however captains Australia should think about playing him as a pure batsman because getting smashed around when he's not bowling paticulary badly looks like it's affecting his confidence.

If he can't improve on his bowling in the Ashes he shouldn't be in the side, never mind whether he can throw or not.

if he can improve on his bowling in the ashes it would be a bonus, because he showed much potential in ashes mind you.

If he's going to replace Hoggard in the team then yes he does.
well the role Lee would play in the england team i would think would be much better right now becuase he would give england more in most conditions than Hoggard who is just a meat & drink for top class batsmen, when its not swinging for him.

One man's meat, apparently, is another man's poison.

There are plenty on here who condemned Harmison as a 'never was' because of his Ashes form - when by and large he out-performed Lee with the ball by some distance.

TBF, Tait was 22 with a season or 2 behind him.

Harmy bowled consistently in the Ashes whilst Lee was anything but.

Still not fit - misfields, dropped catch, and bowling are a direct result of that.

Allan Donald, hours before Watson came onto bowl today, stated how "horrible" he looked in the warm-ups and it was obvious that he was heavily favouring his arm.

I thought the kid was not to bad, good lick, nice action but his length was all wrong.
As I said earlier, there's a lot to work with.

The Aus selectors and captain should be using inconsequential series such as this (and every other series bar the WC) to bowl and bowl he, Tait, Dorey, etc as much as possible as it is the only way they'll learn. In that respect, it was disappointing that Gilchrist didnt keep bowling him today.

Clark, Lewis etc should immediately be consigned to the scrap-heap.

Watson, if he is International class, it's certainly not in the ODI arena. You could just tell with his batting yesterday, that he's unable to up the ante - as soon as he tried, he was dismissed. There are no gears to his batting. He's a mechanical batsman, who is very stiff/rigid. Just because a guy can bat and bowl, it doesn't necessarily mean that he's suited to ODI cricket. If he is International class, it's in the longer form of the game.

Whereas Lee doesn't even have the not swinging caveat...

The Queensland Quota rule is hurting the Aussie side !
Mitchell is not ready to be playing @ ODI level and quite frankly neither is watson !

Why the hell are they not going to fly in new players? You have the likes of Jaques and Gillespie sitting on their tots at home. Got to feel bad for those guys in particular.

The aussie side should and in all likelihood will loook a little something like this in the not to distant future, barring injuries etc

1. Gilchrist (locked in )
2. Jaques ( its not how many runs katich can scrape togeather but the way he does it, it effects the balance of the innings If gilly is not overcompensating for katichs lack of attacking intent , katich is shown for the shocker he is)
3. Ponting ( locked in)
4. Martyn ( needs a score but selectors owe him one (or two))
5. Symonds (locked in)
6. Hussey (locked in)
7. Clarke (locked in)
8. Hogg (Locked in)
9. Lee (locked in)
10. Bracken ( handy with the bat and his variation has increased his value)
11. Mcgrath ( Locked in )

12. Tait ( if he can continue to increase his accuracy and consistency, especially away from adelaide oval)
13. Gillespie ( the man is back, laugh all u want poms)
14. Voges
15. Cosgrove
16. Henriques ( one for the future)
17. D.Hussey

Not good enough at the moment

How can people constantly leave Katich out of the side?? If anyone of the batsmen have been underperforming, it's Martyn, not Katich.
