Weird they're sending three batsman over for one test when Handscomb is still there and was supposedly ahead of them.

He doesn’t open though. Two of the three will probably play along with Handscomb and the third be the reserve batsman in case someone steps on some sandpaper in the warm up.

So they're trolling Maxwell by sending him over to not play then.

Khawaja or S.Marsh could be under the pump.

Could throw in 4 new batsmen.... this tour is extra-ordinary so why not.

Lalor had pitched in so squarely in the Oz camp after the QDK/Warner issue that after this latest saga he was almost obliged to go the other extreme and say the 3rd Test should’ve been immediately abandoned.
Lalor has taken the cringe up to 11 with his latest comments saying how heartbreaking it is for Smith and that he wants to hug him and say it will be all right!

As someone astutely observed on Twitter, it's this mollycoddling and treating this players like children that is part of the problem why they're in the mess they're in now. Having sycophants like Lalor around the team probably doesn't help either.

Geoff Lemon's defence of Warner was top notch condescending too.

I'd sooner trust people in their 20s in political parties than journos

So will the team be:

Renshaw
Burns
Usman
Marsh
Handscombe
Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Haze

Or will Usman or Marsh open, and Maxwell slide into the middle order at the expense of Burns?

It is clear now that Steven Smith will no longer captain Australian cricket team in any format in the near future. Along with him, David Warner will also lose his vice-captaincy post. Post ball tampering saga during third day’s play against South Africa at Cape Town, Cricket Australia (CA) directed appointed Tim Paine as acting captain for the rest of the match but who is going to lead them in 4th Test at Johannesburg, is yet to be announced.

Paine is likely candidate for the next Test but there have been reports coming from several Australian media sources that players such George Bailey along with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Marsh are also in the race to captain the side in their final encounter against The Proteas.

I personally feel George Bailey is the ideal candidate to be the captain! What's more, he even has better record as captain in ODIs as compared to Steven Smith!

I have no problem with Mulder playing. Can't contribute less with the bat then temba & tdb has recently and adds more with the ball.

Pretty much what I think.... and while I feel bad for Temba and de Bruyn. Truth, when we are playing against weaker opposition in the next year we know he is going to get blooded anyway, might as well be at Wanderers. But we talking about that 6/7 spot again which is always up for grabs, even taking quotas into account. I always feel sorry for Maharaj in these discussions, he does all that is asked and more, but gets dropped unnecessarily every now and again.
