I would agree with this 100%... except Duminy is so out of form I don`t think he could hit a football under-armed to him at the moment. And his saving grace of being a half-decent 2nd spinner has gone to absolute ****.... causing SA huge balance issues. I think he will still make the team though due to his experience in Indian conditions, hopefully he comes good soon.... also I just hope the selectors realize they have to play Amla and QDK , with AB at 3 or 4... it makes the batting line-up so much more potent.

PS: I am aware I put a team up that included Morris instead of Duminy earlier in the thread.... its just Duminys form the worries me...

The worry is that Amla has opened the batting before in a sub-continent world T20 and we didn't get off to quick starts required there. AB will probably retire from T20 internationals after this but if we going to open him , the best place will be on the sub-continent.

Faf has been saying numerous times now, need to win first 6 overs with the ball and the bat and they clearly think if AB comes off watch out !

On paper though, I get what you saying, it looks good but probably more so in 50-overs format ?

ICC targetting only spinner, why not a single asian indian spinner doubtful.?

I don`t think that AB should open for SA, I think this is a knee-jerk reaction to when he was batting at 5 and all the pundits where saying, "your best player needs to face as many balls as possible", so they put him as opener! Rather put him in 3/4 where he still gets lots of balls to face and can still do the damage. Watching him play he thinks he needs to hit every-ball out of the park because of this first 6 over thing and he is not settling first.

I would rather play Amla in the team before Duminy, Berhardien or Rossouw he is classier than all of them put together and will score more runs. Everybody goes on about Amla`s S/R. But its always good watching him play with QDK, QDK goes off and starts hitting the ball over the top and looks brilliant then you notice that Amla has the same S/R from just playing classy drivers and flicks off his legs. I get irritated with Amla when he starts trying to heave the ball around and loses shape. This is also why he is best in the first six overs when the fielders are up. All you need is for him to make 30 off 20, take any movement out of the new ball and give AB an opportunity to face the 2nd string and 5/6th bowler of the opposition. Anyway that`s why I would play Amla.... unfortunately (or more probably fortunately ) I`m not SA captain/coach or selector.


PS: Yes this would probably also be my 50 over side, except probably drop Morris for Morkel...

Probably SA want to send ABD as opener in India, those sort of strategy works if you place your best batsman to open and let him play most instead send him at 4 with 8 over left.
Sachin played at 4 in as many as 79 games 50/50 than in NZ Azher try him as opener.he retired with 18,426 runs. ODI.

Well short with the bat after the platform that qdk and hash had laid. Bowling wasn't great but from what hash said and the way the aussie guys played seems to have been a great pitch.

Things to ponder about come world 20/20. all of AB,Hash and QDK simply has to play don't care you slot them in but they are better players then jp,rr or behardien.

If NCN played ahead of Haze there, you could legitimately make a case for Nevill batting 11.
