Guptill is on fire in the shorter formats. How highly is he rated in NZ? Seems to me like he is one of the most underrated ODI/t20 cricketers in the current game.

Acknowledged as one of our better ODI players right now, beginning to be thought of as our best ever opener.

This time 13 months ago people were beginning to start calling for him to be dropped from the limited overs teams.

How would you compare him with Astle the ODI opener?

Guptill has to be a realistic possibility of becoming NZ's best ever ODI batsman.

Ross Taylor, who most believe is NZ's best ever ODI batsman, averages 43.90 at 83.

Guptill averages 43.21 at 86, as an opener, which is surely worth at least an extra couple of runs in terms of difficulty.

I think Guptill is in unusually good form and that average will stop climbing soon. But stats wise it's arguable that he's as good as Taylor.

Wonder how Blocky feels.

Wonder how Blocky feels.
Blocky has accepted the inevitable and quietly sidled into the pro-Gup camp, all the while insisting that regardless of how well he's playing now he should've been dropped for his form during 2013-2015. He also still takes every chance he gets to engage in his signature brand of oddly personal attacks whenever Gup strings together a couple failures in a row.
